I know I will probably get some slack for this, but I am scared if I rev my engine I will run into someone. Please forgive my ignorance. Do you have to put the car in neutral?
Only for stick, press the clutch to disengage and rev the engine! For automatic, just wave them cuz I don’t want to tell you to put it in neutral and rev then put it back in drive! You might put it in Reverse by accident during that! Not worth it for automatic, for safety sake!
In this example, it's healthy to have a genuine concern of the effects. Those that do have accidents don't think far enough ahead to imagine what happens when gunning the throttle while in gear. Unexpected power, cold tires, drivers overreacting to loud noises or quick movements. It often ends badly. Better to wave while exiting. Not as exciting, but it's a good close, with everyone and every car remaining available for the next time.
I blame my age for thinking that far ahead. I’ll continue my wave. I wave at ALL mustangs.
Back in 1988, I entered a freshly restored 1966 Mustang in a North Texas Mustang Club show. A man parked his mid-70s big bumper Camaro in the spectators portion of the parking lot, walked around the show and upon leaving, decided to show off a bit. He proceeded to spin the tires as he exited the parking area left onto the main road, lost control and hit a pole on the opposite side of the street. I kinda saw it out of the corner of my eye, but all of the Mustang owners looked up when they heard the crash. There was a brief pause to make sure he was OK, but as he opened his car door, everyone erupted into applause.I thought that was only for Mustangs leaving car shows.
Poor guy. Not much could be more embarrassing than to have 100+ Mustang owners watch you crash your Camaro. (Just don't do it. Besides the risk of an embarrasing crash, that kind of thing HAS gotten us kicked out of preferred venues before.)
Yeah that’s the rub, and then considering today’s social climate it’s hit or miss, just be aware if you decide to make it a habit for each super snooper trooper mustang you see.
We used to have a huge Cars & Coffee at a mall about 1 mile from our house. Easily 500-600 cars. If you didn't get there an hour before it started, you couldn't get a spot. It lasted two summers before they cancelled it. Too many people doing burnouts and driving like idiots. What if two mustangs crash head on as one loses control leaving a car show, and the other loses control pulling up to a car show?I thought that was only for Mustangs leaving car shows.
We need like a gentleman's car meet organization where it's just a bunch of chill people who love cars. With a zero tolerance policy for the macho BS. No fighting, throwing punches, doing burnouts and street racing. None of the toxic shit. You break the rules, you're kicked out and your car is put on an exclusion list or something. You show up again and people call the cops to have you removed.
