Recommendations to Improve Handling

Hello,

I have a 2024 Mustang GT Premium with about 2k miles on it. I absolutely love the car and the only issue I have about the car is its ability to absorb a bump on the highway. When going 65mph and hitting a small bump, the car bounces and veers towards the bump. The car is very high maintenance to control when this happens. I spoke with American Muscle and they recommended that I get Koni SRT.T shocks and I had a shop install these. The car feels about the same and I still have issues managing bumps at high speed. The dealer looked at everything and said its fine, with no issues.

The car is stock, stock good year tires and stock 20' wheels.

What suspension modification would you recommend?

STR.T shocks aren't much of an improvement over OEM, I would have went with the Koni yellows

I'd look at the tires/wheels/alignment though.

I would check the bolts in the rear suspension to make sure they are properly tightened. My car was manufactured in May 2024 and it moved around over sharp rises and when the transmission shifted. The bolt holding the passenger side toe link to the hub was not fully tightened, there was a 3/16 inch gap between the toe link and the hub bushing which let the toe change on that wheel. My car drove much better after tightening the bolt.

Alignment would not be a bad idea... they all seem to be off quite a lot from factory. Ford will cover cost within 1 year/12,000 miles.

I assume you already checked tire pressure, and set it to the door placard setting.

Yes, i got both ford and the autoshop to review the alignment and they said everything looks good. PSI on all tires are the same per placard, square setup.

I would check to see if anyone with your wheels have lowered their car. If so I would use Ford lowering springs no more than 1 inch. Since you already change the struts I would see how they work out. If you want to change them again go Bilsteins. Don't change too many things at once. Doing this gives you time to evaluate each mod. Sway bars other suspicion mods from Steeda and BMR will have info for you also.

In 2018 I bought a brand new Mustang and it had 20 inch wheels with skinny tires and road like a tank. I almost took it back and took back the 2014 I traded in it rode so bad. I ended up keeping it and getting 17 inch wheels with much higher side walls And nice riding tires and it’s a world of difference. 18 inch wheels would probably do the trick too.

I think this may be the answer, thank you for sharing. I like the design of these wheels so I'll find 18 or 19's and get some decent tires

If you have brembo brakes, only 19" will fit.

A bad tire is also a possibility... going through this on another car (not mustang). Bought new tires, got all kinds of weird vibrations, bad ride. Had rebalanced 3 times.. 3rd time at a different shop because I didn't trust the equipment at the first shop. Shop replaced the worst tire (after some tire "juggling" to determine), and the tire had some defects on the inside (big bubbles in the inside belts). Now in the process of replacing more tires as the one made it better but still not right. A real PITA.

@Sofa King Imagine going at a high rate of speed and having that defect tire come apart. What brand? Almost any brand could have issues but I see people talking about driving at high speed without giving thoughts about tire stress.

That is my concern... I don't trust these tires now... but the shop is taking care of me (slowly but surely). Toyo tires... I have probably bought more of this brand than any other with zero problems.

This is going to be difficult to recommend changes/ setup as the description here could be describing different things from person to person. A video example would help but I'd recommend, after ensuring the alignment/ pressures are good, having a suspension specialist in your area to take a look at or ride in your car. I have a lot of Steeda parts that I installed myself and I don't have what I believe your post is describing but that can vary from car/install. I cetainly don't recommend buying parts from guesses on this forum/ social media.

There are some 18" wheels that fit over Brembos...but I don't think a 275/40-19 rides bad at all
