I feel like with the cyber truck/future/EVs we are going to see a bunch of "unfamiliar" designs.
Agreed. We'll see how many of these unfamiliar designs are actually visually appealing. Ford's CEO said these upcoming affordable EVs look nothing like the Ford's people expect due to how radical the areo is, and he doesn't know how everyone will react. That could be a really good, or a really bad thing. It could mean these affordable Ford models have this exotic flair to them that we haven't really seen before from afford Ford models, or they could look like shit.

He also described them as very attractive aspirational models, not generic commodity products like most other affordable small cars. So that's hopeful at least.

Ranks right up there with their “bud light” commercial.
No thanks.

amateur hour at Jag branding.
looks cheap. This rebrand will be rebranded inside 5 years and they’ll defend this by calling it a “market disruption.”

autoblog seems all for it though.

go to jaguar website and prepare to be greeted by a copycat of the most outlandish Tik tok, lil nas x shoots, and drag queen lookalikes. Yet the marketing tagline is “copy nothing.” LOL.
My stance on it is I don't like seeing things get political and forced regardless of the direction. I have gay family members and friends, so I can say gay people in my experience are some of the nicest people you'll meet. But I still don't like seeing lifestyle choices brought into marketing for the same reason most of us don't like it when it's a political or religious message, it's just forced, and it doesn't really tie into the product. Plus no matter how you craft that sort of content, it's gonna alienate some of your buyers.

But even then, I'd be able to get past it if the end result was an appealing product. But moving upmarket with cars well in the 6 figures and making them look like that? Gonna be a hard pass for me. I genuinely question the intelligence of any brand that reinvents itself when they were already loved. People loved Jag's design language, yet they threw it out the window for this.

We've seen the basic proportions on the prototype, massive, long hood, flowing roof line, all great. But this desire to add quirky details like those slats to the rear is gonna fuck it up. With those strong proportions, if they had given it traditional Jag design cues, maybe with some of the drama of that supercar concept they made a while back thrown in, it would have been stunning. But someone wanted to get quirky and here we are.

Jaguar are throwing away all of their existing customers in the hope of getting a few new ones for an up market exclusive brand. Could be very exclusive / non-existent. Not a great business move.
There was absolutely no way Jaguar could have continued as a low to mid level luxury brand. The current customer base has not, cannot, and will not support the brand. So without support they have to try something different/drastic to survive. Will they succeed? Well I certainly hope so.

But they were only a small brand by name. As part of JLR they were like a Stellantis brand or VW brand in that they were platform and technology sharing. It didn't cost much to pop a Jaguar F-Pace body on a Discovery Sport.

Agreed, but this is the direction they are taking. I wish them good luck.

There’s 20 replies on a Mustang forum talking about how bad the marketing campaign is.
My thoughts on their useless cars aside, it’s evident the campaign worked perfectly.

It only worked if it leads to sales which I have my doubts lol
They’re targeting the same people that BMWs XM was targeted at. Bet it works “well”. Still don’t know why anyone would buy an electric car that isn’t a Tesla

this right here. Jaguar played a 300IQ move and it seems to have worked. everyone is talking about them now. in terms of marketing, this was a perfect success. in terms of sales, we will have to see

I think it depends.

By and large, European countries are more tolerant of gay, lesbian & trans folks than the US. I don’t think JagUar would suffer the same Imbev/Bud Lite hit. I think it’s fairly common that Americans don’t necessarily care how other people live, it’s when we’re made to cater to them that things go pear shaped. We probably see it - that is, the plurality of our crowd here on M7G - as a marketing fail, but...

I have yet to hear owners selling off their Raptors and Mustangs:
Insight & Strategy | Ford: Very Gay RaptorWorld Federation of Advertisershttps://wfanet.org › knowledge › item › 2022/07/27 › I...
or vowing not to buy from them again.

There are other beers out there and almost all are better than bud Lite. When I see some poor soul nursing a bud lite my first thought is - ‘why not Lone Star? Lone Star lite? or Shiner?’ They’re everywhere in Texas, they’re from Texas...
<full disclosure: I’m a brewer, so my opinion is biased, 100%>

My point is, there alternatives to bud lite that can be had anywhere. You can successfully avoid them. If you want an apocalypse capable truck that can burn crappy unleaded, take speed bumps at 60mph, with over a foot of suspension travel and is off road capable beyond most mortal drivers, you have few factory options and they are limited to 1) the Raptor or 2) anything else. Yes, there are capable off road vehicles out there, but by and large nothing you can buy off the showroom floor that effectively competes with the Raptor. I can hear the Stellantis crowd already... TRX... RHO. We know about the former, we will learn about the latter as time goes by but again, it’s ALWAYS going to be a benchmark of the Raptor.

so, will JagUar fare better than bud lite? probably. It will depend on how they’re able to capitalize on the marketing. They’re more of a niche brand and have probably done their demographic homework.

arent Canadian insurance companies refusing to insure it due to it being called an armored vehicle? or just refusing to insure it outright? also, i promise you that lot is only going to get more full. see the various lots in the US filled with unsellable CyberStucks because not many want them and they have tons of issues
Dunno, never bothered to look into it. I have zero interest in a Cybertruck.
