You can always platform share but with the Mustang in mind first, and a sedan/hatchback could benefit from the chassis. So for example, say the “S750” is basically what the Alpha Platform is, then you have a platform for SUVs only, and all the trucks get their own thing etc.

I’ve just never seen a one size fits all approach to vehicles without big compromises. Before the GRGT was made, Toyota was working on a LCF with the same V8 TT hybrid unit. It was so bad dynamically (rode on a frankensteined LS executive chassis) they axed it all together and decided to create something bespoke with the idea of using the chassis later with other RWD coupes. Keep this in mind the GRGT is about the weight of a Dark Horse.
I see where you're coming from. It's hard to know if cd6 started out as a crossover platform, or if it started as a rwd modern unibody platform that just happens to have a crossover on it. That makes a lot of difference. The plan for cd6 was originally to have things like a rwd Ford and Lincoln sedan.

If it was up to me, I'd create a new shared performance oriented platform for

- A mustang coupe
- A sedan
- A gas powered mach-e
- A halo model like a new cobra.

I feel like you'd get enough sales volume and profit to get a really impressive platform out of that.

Yeah that would make sense, and every car under the halo/Mustang would be insanely better benefiting off the platform.

You could realistically keep that platform for another 10+ with minor changes if they did it right. Would also work well if they implemented some of that new manufacturing juju they have going for the new EVs.

Miles and Miles of wires for all the new computers to talk to each other adds a LOT of weight, but with that, I took the car from Central Florida to Baltimore, and it is SUPER comfy the entire trip. Driving on the FL highways is comfy as well, but when I want to, I can tighten it up via track mode.
BUTx2.. I do wish it was a bit lighter on its feet.

There's a thread over on Mustang6G about what individual stuff weighs

Compared to the older car, things like wheels/brakes are bigger and those are heavier. The IRS is heavier than the old solid axle.

As far as Camaro vs Mustang, the Mustang is larger overall. And the LT1 engine is a little bit lighter than the Coyote.
The S650 is 100-200 lbs heavier than the S550. The reference to Mustang6G become irrelevant with the weight difference between the generations.

That's a myth. A lot of videos out there where they weigh both cars back to back. The S650's weight a little more but nowhere near 200lbs for similarly equipped cars.

Yeah, I don't know how much the learnings of the affordable EV platform will carry over to gas platforms, but according to insiders, if it's successful, Ford will try to implement at least some of what it's learned from that towards gas programs.

It sounds like these new methods have reduced weight, cost, and improved quality. So it's pretty promising.

That platform itself is gonna be used for the truck, a couple of crossovers, a small and larger sedan, and a van, so it seems pretty versatile.

I know this is beating a dead horse but what do you want to see for the next Mustang?
Something smaller and lighter. Closer to the current Supra. Cheaper somehow? The current engine/transmission are fine to carry over.

All this talk about hybrid, AWD, etc seems great but it's just going to increase size, weight, and cost.

Better cooled seats. With better lumbar support for those few of us left in the United States who are not fat.

Oh, weight, um, yeah, lighter would be great, but not at the expense of chassis rigidity, handling, or NVH issues.

i don't know if I'd like a Supra Mustang. This one has presence without being too huge, it does most things well and is an icon.
I doubt you'd have strangers coming up and asking about your Supra.

I think going back to a smaller size would help them.

It could be a little bigger to accommodate the rear seats, but Mustang is turning into a porker.

I had a 70's Mustang go past a few days ago. Fastback, not sure of the exact model, but I thought it looked enormous.
