Received my Whipple open air box kit (less filters) today. No instructions, but luckily I watched a video from Lethal Performance on the install, pretty straight forward anyways. Passenger side is a bit of a bitch, but about an hour install. No where near the install of a stage 2 Whipple as I installed my own.

It looks cool and all, but if your looking for a whine inside the car at even quiet exhaust setting, this won't do it. Maybe a faint whine coming up through 5000 rpm, but nothing notable, and honestly that is fine with me. Running up through the gears coming towards someone you can hear it good to about 50-100' from you then the exhaust takes over your ears, not Hellcat sound but a good enough healthy whine sound, also fine with me. I wanted sound but not stupid like a hellcat (my opinion). If you search for the GT3 running the track, that is roughly the amount of whine you will hear coming at you just the same.

So all in all for $425 landed.......well, I would continue to run with the covers off really or leave the covers on if you don't care. Temps with the covers off or the open design is well within 2° of the outside temp when up to speed. It did improve the outside whine sound, but not $400+ worth, Just my opinion of course. Ruiing stealth mode with no whine is really NOT a bad thing anyways.

A better concept would be if the opening was at the bottom of airbox vs. top, so as to capture cooler air.

I’ve recently purchased the foster SC mod for my dark horse once my whipple is installed later this month. I’m hoping it help with the sound inside the cabin!

Actually the opening isn't from the top as it's sealed to the hood (maybe not perfectly sealed, but pretty close). The air comes in from the front bottom of the cannister, in from the grille. Almost even a ram air kind of thing, but not. It runs the same inlet temps as stock or very close anyways.

I wouldn't mind that if I could turn it off and on.

So it seals to the hood. So all it is doing is providing more area around the air filters Right? Is it supposed to increase HP or to make the S/C louder? looking at them but they would cost me over $600 so not sure if its a big enough bang for the buck?

Just more area and it's supposed to give you more sound. My own opinion is save your money.

Well I'm sorry I ended up not taking your advise. I was checking the filters in the stock air boxes and on the white filter you could see a dirt pattern just on the part that faced the opening. It did look like the air was not getting to all sides just that focused spot. Also the open boxes look so cool. However I was way off on the cost getting it to Canada. It was like $525 US funds but that was with the cool blue filters matches the interior. Then just under $500 US funds for shipping and lastly $80 Canadian funds for taxes and duties. It is so expensive to build cars outside the US. But it must be done lol.
