I just started the mustang and put it in quiet mode and then a minute later I saw this on the dash panel and have no idea what it means? And the online manual it isn't listed.

I’ve only seen (or noticed) this symbol in Track Mode, which makes sense for an anti-collision feature. No one needs aggressive driving nannies when actually on a track.

This thread is a good time to remind people to go through all the driver aids in your menu system and decide how aggressive you want them to be.

I made all mine the least intrusive….I have eyes, hands and feet to control my car. I don’t need it deciding by itself when it wants to slam on the brakes or yank the wheel out of my hand.

There have been several cars of different brands tested by Motor Trend and Car and Driver where the collision avoidance slammed on the brakes because it thought a truck coming around a curve in the other lane was an obstacle. Imagine doing 60 MPH on a freeway, and the car randomly slams on the brakes causing a rear end collision. No thank you.

It means shooting flames out the back of your car in unavailable.



...its the collision assist icon. it means you're following too close and or tailgating. Back off the car in front of you and it goes away. The line through it means it is blocked or can't read the cars in front of you.

It means the car can't detect anything nearby to crash into.

The one with the line through it shows collision detector disabled, which seemed to come on in Track Mode by default.

TBH, I never saw either symbol until I set the drive mode to track. Then I was also like, what the hell is this? I forgot to consult the manual after I got out of the car though, because my memory now rivals that of a friggin goldfish.

The sensor can be dirty or something else wrong to cause that symbol to come up. Or you're in track mode.

this comes on for me when it's raining/dark and certain sensors are blocked. It usually resolves by itself.

I always get that icon when I'm close to a car in front of me. As soon as I back off a little, it goes away. I think the cameras only work at a certain distance.

People are giving the wrong answers.

The icon people are talking about is when the system works and detects when the car is too close to another car while driving.

The icon you see on this picture is different. It has a diagomal stripe through it, which means the system that detects your distance isn't working.
