In this video, we compare different intake mods against the K&N CAI System!

We dyno our 2024 Mustang GT with a 10R80 transmission and resonator delete. We will be comparing the stock cold air intake with carbon traps on, and then off. Against a high-flow drop-in air filter without the carbon traps. Finally the results with K&N Cold Air Intake without carbon traps. We were surprised, to say the least by the outcome. Tune in to see the results. Let us know what you think in the comments below, and thanks for watching!

Couldnā€™t tell +6 & 3 for active exhaust?

Seems like the K & N intake made some good gains!
Yeah, if you ride around with your hood off.... He is right though, should have tested with the hood down with the stock pipes and box. I think this is a good video to let the consumer know what they are or are not getting for $650-$700. I like the look of the K&N system myself, however; IMO, the gains are just not there for the price. Great for Cars and Coffee/ Car Shows...not so much for numbers. Haven't seen any real world/ track testing though. With the airflow going down the track, things may show a little difference.

I wanna see the test where they distill out spoonfuls of dirt that got by their filter medium. Then it's a $12000 mod, not a $700 one. Minus whatever c&c bragging is worth in Dollars and cents.

Any mod that doesn't result in a clear 5% gain with basically no downside is a collosal waste of money.

I guess you have to consider vehicle movement and associated air intake volume when driving. That loss of power from Stock to the K&N set up is alarming on it's face. But when the car is
moving, it's going to come down fast on the IATs and make power. 18 hp... who knows?

This comparison was scientific in method, but the hood up variable vs. a moving vehicle air flow is still a big question.

Applause for the effort here for sure.

Side note.. I'd really like to see a set of intake pipes that use the stock air boxes. IE: Like Airaid makes for the 15-23 Ecoboost. That has proven to be the best power maker on those cars. Steeda is working on a closed lid set to my knowledge. Fact is, we need tuning, plain and simple. Some recent testing and logging has shown these cars are leaving 25-30 whp on the table with the OEM calibration. Torque management is super intrusive on these cars.

Valid for the evaluation - all things being equal save for the modification(s).

Right on!

Your point about tuning vs an after market intake (and exhaust for that matter) parallels my experience and observation/s on my former 2016 Focus RS (another Ford hot rod that had a lot of well thought out and designed engineering put into it). Bone stock RS CAIs and exhausts will flow to well over 500 fly wheel HP.

Why would anyone spend money on after market intakes or exhausts that "at best" flow "as good as" or maybe slightly better than OEM? Yet hundreds of RS owners did (including one of the previous owners of my RS).

When I finally had my RS dyno tuned by Livernois Motorsports I ended up with a 65 HP/50 TQ gain over stock. Which virtually mirrors gains by other RS owners with stock intake and exhaust systems! Strongly suggesting the K & N intake CAI and Borla S type cat back on my RS were lookin' good, but not a lot else vs OEM.

Don't get me wrong. From an appearance perspective; the K & N GT Typhoon looks great, but for a $650-$700 price of entry; I'll save my pennies for another 93 O LMS tune for my GT.

BTW: Props to LMR for doing the tests and posting the vid!

UPDATE: Just got off the phone with LMS, r.e. a 93 O dyno tune for my GT.

The customer rep I spoke with told me they've had little to no luck cracking Ford's Mustang GT ECU/PCM code "so far". Guess I'll be saving my pennies up for a while longer!

and whoā€™s going to be driving around in 5 th gear at 7200 rpm šŸ˜‚ lol
Stock ā€˜activeā€™ begins at 4,900 rpm and completes at 7,250 rpm. Are the results as interpreted from the evaluation starting with an active baseline or a base baseline?

Does a K&N filter flow well? Yes. But I think one has to consider the reason there's a filter installed on engines to begin with. I mean, you could remove the filters altogether if you truly wanted maximum flow.
