License plates, vanity or otherwise, often get blanked out when photos are posted herein. Perhaps it is a security issue with some owners? However, you’re more likely to have your license plate memorized or caught on a dash cam because you’re driving erratically than any other issue. The latter is especially true if you have an easily-recognized vanity plate. Since I don’t drive like I was recording a YouTube video, I don’t care about posting my license plate. You shouldn’t either!

The vanity plate on my 2024 Eco-Boost reads 4STAIR which is self-explanatory. The one on my 2019 Ranger reads PELLETER. The latter was to get by the vanity license plate Gods when I really wanted to have AIRGUNNER.

If you’re not squeamish about your vanity plate, why not post it, and explain it if it isn’t obvious?

Maybe this will help....

4st air
4-speed transmission air? 4 stroke air? 4 steps air? 4 speed turbo air? Stairway to heaven?

That's how far my fantasy goes.

Not sure if or which other states may do it, but in North Dakota we can go onto the DMV website and do a vanity plate search.

You simply type in your desired plate number and they'll tell you whether it is available or not.

Of course, you still have to file a paper form and submit your first and 2nd choice for a desired plate and it is still at the discretion of someone at the DMV as to whether or not you will get approved. Gotta make sure it's not offensive to anyone ya know.

Yeah pretty sure my state runs that way too. Seen some clever workarounds that DMV didn’t catch….lol

Seemingly, no two states are the same. Here in New Mexico, there are about 10 different plate schemes and only one allows 8 digits and/or numbers. No spaces, no caps, or other punctuation is allowed. Obviously, it would have been nice to have 4st Air!

Speaking of putting one over on the DMV... There was a urologist who has SMIGMA on his plate for several years until the DMV figured out what it was. Now you must explain the meaning.

I never seriously looked into plates…I think 7 characters is max.

I always remember the story I read in the news someone was rejected the plate HOOKER. Turns out it was a priest and it was just his nickname.

There was one plate that looked clean until seen in rear view mirror. Can’t remember what it was though…

I had vanity plates on 5 of my 7 cars. Went back to regular Texas plates, but kept the vanity plates for cars and coffee and other shows. I got tired of paying close to $300 a plate each year. Texas has a website you can play with to see if a plate is taken.

I believe the plate you might be thinking of is 3MTA3. At least that is one I read about several years ago.
