Serious question.....what are you trying to accomplish? Are you sure you have a base model with 3.55 gears and an automatic? Base comes with 3.15 gears and an automatic.
Actually, it's the Performance Package that comes with the Torsen 3.15, I believe. Base like my GT Premium is definitely 3.55 LSD.

I have a serious question for you Mustang owners. How careful do I truly need to be? I mean, besides not flooring it when you pull out and turn or are around corners, etc....is this thing going to be unstable? I have not yet been able to try and step on the accelerator HARD from a stop. Would that be a problem if I did? With the traction controls, etc. enabled?

I want to find and take a driving course, but I read SO MUCH about people planting their Stangs into walls....Makes me a bit nervous. I've had rear wheel drive before in a Charger and earlier a Chrysler Crossfire.

No. PP autos come with 3.55s, and PP manuals come with 3.73s. Both have Torsen diffs.

3.55 limited slip diffs are optional on non PP GTs.

Ugh. LOTS of options. I'd asked for the PP and thought it's what I had since it had the brakes and adaptive exhaust, etc. But apparently dealers can add a lot of those things and it NOT be the full PP. Live and learn! Still supercharger ready from what they have told me, so that's cool. Was my plan from the start. But...a bit concerned about drivability.....

3.55 gears are an option. I don't think there is a trim level requirement.

Correct. My GT (non PP) window sheet lists 3:55 LS gear set under the options the car is equipped with.

Nope, but I'm out-numbered here. The OP said he has a base, automatic with 3.55 gears. Either he doesn't have the base or his gears are 3:15 if he does have base in a 2025. My gears are 3:15 with an automatic and I know that's what they come with if you don't up the "package". I have a window sticker to verify 3:15 gears on a non-PP. Something is off in the OP's first post. Not going to argue.

To answer your other question, you need to be real careful even with the allegedly wimpy 3:15 gears. Go out on a wet, empty parking lot and you can learn a lot that can keep you out of trouble on dry pavement. Respect the car. Better to find out off a public road. I've had muscle cars and sport bikes (I live in mountains) off and on from the beginning of my driving and they all will get you in trouble. Of course everybody knows that because they've gotten in trouble, right?

BTW, someone helped me plant an '07 GT straight into the divider wall on I-24 at 65 mph. That car literally blew up parts (no fire) and stopped the interstate for a while. I didn't have a scratch or bruise. All because the rear end can get very loose, very fast. Respect the car.

Once again (actually about a dozen times between myself and about 15 others!)... If you're going to do spirited driving which requires lot of steering input, make darn sure you turn off the stability control!!!! If you don't, the ditch will be your next landing point! While the stability works okay in normal driving, twisties will cause it to (politely) malfunction.

Drag mode is fine, but even with traction and stability stuff shut off, they really aren't! Duplicate your previous effort, but first pull the Dyno plug. It is the plug atop the left fender well. It turns off both completely! Then come back with a report.

As I already stated twice, you can get 3.55 gears as an option on non PP GT.

First time for everything.

You just didn't want a completely stripped Mustang. Good for you. Really.

Just for grins, I would like to know the difference in 3:15 gears and 3:55 gears in a quarter mile. .......and other gears all other things being equal. Of course, the red color is unfair.

And yes AZ, reading is hell....

I have a Gt Premium. Not the PP though, And it has the 3.55 gear option for $995. I got lucky just by chance of it already being equipped on the one I liked.
