Posted my first compilation dashcam video of drivers doing stupid stuff… includes where the dealership rear ended my 2024….

Stupid drivers doing stupid stuff May/June 2024

Enjoy!
You like the VIOFO A229 Pro? I guess the dealership had nothing to say as you had the video AND Audio! Nice!
I would like to see pics of the front camera placement. I'm assuming you are using the USB connection off the rearview mirror.

How difficult was it to route the cable for the rear camera?
Did you do the install yourself? I've lost a lot of flexibility over the years and probably could not do the rear camera.

Like it so far. I used the usb connection on the rear view mirror. I placed the interior camera right below the rear mirror, and the main unit to the right and below the mirror (so basically just below the built in camera module). I ran the rear inside the upper liner to the A pillar, then into the door seal, then to the B pillar back to the C pillar. I probably have 10 ft of wire tucked into that C pillar on the passenger side then in the headliner to the center for the rear camera. Do the rear wasn’t so much difficult, just a bit hard contorting my body in the rear seat to do it.

My only gripe is that I have to manually turn the camera module on/off as it doesn’t always turn on/off automatically with the usb port. I have the hardwore kit but thought I’d try this first.

Are you saying the USB port on the rearview mirror is ALWAYS powered - even after you have turned the car off? If so, many people would say that is a plus! Great for monitoring your car while parked. Also a battery drainer. 🤬

It eventually times out, @DCS. And there's not enough amperage for a dashcam.

I’ve been able to run the dash cam off the usb port on the mirror. I tried using it instead to power my uniden R8 but it refused to turn on properly so I use the 12V cig lighter port to run that when I use it.

The VIOFO unit is designed to work off USB (5 volts DC). The Uniden R8 is probably designed to run off 12 volts DC. This is one reason why I' so focused on the VIOFO A229 Pro!

I've had mine hooked up to it the past 8 months with no issue.
Is the USB power connection in the rearview mirror switched or constant?

Sounds like you have the three channel model (Front, Interior, & rear).

I should have said "... there's not enough amperage for MOST dashcams."

I'm not a defensive course instructor by any stretch of the imagination.....but in the case of the service truck passing the semi on the shoulder..... Other drivers on the road need to note the circumstance and allow the service truck space to either switch lanes or cross the line a bit.
