Article above is from 2019, when the last contract was negotiated. It helps explain the breakdown of the different types of UAW employment. It also highlights the topic of temporary workers. Ford would like to use more as the opportunity presents itself, the union, less.

- Temporary workers' wages: $15-$19 per hour.

- A newly hired permanent production worker, called "in progression," makes about $17 an hour, which can rise to $28 an hour after eight years. [Wage increases of 8.13% a year.]

- A legacy worker, one hired before 2007, earns $28-$33 an hour.

- A skilled trades worker such as an electrician, plumber or machine repairman, about 15% of the Detroit Three's workforce, is closer to $35 to $36 an hour. They often earn overtime.

- Profit sharing: Temps get nothing. North American permanent hourly workers get, generally, $1,000 per every $1 billion an automaker makes in annual pretax profit.

- Temp workers pay more for health care for less coverage than permanent workers. They pay more out of pocket expenses, such as deductibles. They get no supplemental pay during layoffs and plant retooling. They get no retirement pay.

I attempted to get a general benefits summary for a typical UAW employee, but could not. Different plants, years and agreements, legacy employees versus new and temporary, etc. Retired or not. It can be very specific, sometimes down to who worked at what plant, when.

https://corporate.ford.com/content/...ers/2023-benefits-and-comp-GSR-sal-plan-1.pdf

Document above is for a new hire, a non-union package for a Ford General Salary Roll (GSR) employee. Page 2 of the document lays out the benefits non-union employees receive. From my experience, the GSR package is common for Fortune 100 and 500-level companies. For most of us "regular" folks, these packages are same for each. Salaried and executives can sometimes negotiate individual aspects of these packages.

For union and non-union employees, headline numbers and outliers grab attention. Most on either side have the same general package (union with one and non-union with theirs') of benefits, with their individual pay rates sometimes varying dramatically. For any employee, any job, top line pay numbers often list a 2080 hour work year, but not everyone books 2080. Lots of variables and outcomes, too many to list here.

It’s the new America……lots of folks collected enhanced unemployment for two years when employers could not give a job away. Why work at all when the government will take care of you with the hard earned tax dollars of those that do work. Must be nice to buy votes and stay in power with my money.
I remember too well, both my husband and my two sons continued working for the exact same amount of money, I’m sure they would’ve rather had off also making as much,if not more than they were making working.
Should have never happened. There have been worse viruses out there, and they have not shut down for those viruses🤔
All the corruption needs to stop.
Car prices and everything else have gone up more than salaries have over the year

This country would be a much better place if they got rid of unions. Some of the Starbucks in this state are going to unions, The sad thing is most of these are younger kids that think oh, they’re gonna make a lot of money, some of these kids cry if they have to work overtime.
Wait until they go on strike, and they have a car payment or cell phone bill do, it could take months of not having money coming in, then you’ll really see them crying.
The ones that are Union won’t be getting any of our business.

@dfwford that is from 2019 contract.

The company basically withheld our raises and made us get by for four full years to finally earn top rate.

Yes, I'm aware it's from the 2019 contract.

The timing of them "fast-tracking" it is what's slick

Is it a good omen, or a bad omen, that the UAW deadline this Thursday (Sep 14) is exactly 1 year after the S650 reveal?

I'm going to go to my boss and tell him I only want to work 32 hours a week, but pay me for 40. Who comes up with this? I'm all for fair wages for fair work, but not great wages for no work. There's a middle ground where everyone wins. Fain is wanting too much for too little.
It's almost as if the working class in the US has been beaten down for the past 50 years and everyone's developed Stockholm syndrome to CEO's and investors.

Greed is a natural human emotion. It's why the cave man took women from another tribal and why they would fight another tribe. Many humans have overcome it as shown by the good deeds they do but we still have those who steal from stores, steal cars and many other illegal acts to get ahead of another. You just may be noticing it more.

How much does labor add to the cost of a vehicle on average?
Less than it would cost me to put it together. Just imagine the number of Amazon boxes that would be.

As someone who's a part of the so-called "corporate class," this take by Fain is delusional:

Us rank & file salaried workers are not the enemy, and he's not helping the UAW's cause by antagonizing us. We're getting screwed as well in many ways (if not more so).

The beef they have should be directef specifically at the shareholders and C-level executives who make the decisions.

I'm from a union family and I'm actully sympathetic to the UAW's demands, BTW.
100% correct. I am a Teamster Local 399 and we have the same issue in California with the WGA/ACTORS strike. Everyone seems to think we all make millions. I live paycheck to paycheck and had to dip into my retirement to keep my house. If this shit doesnt end soon, I will have to sell my car and whatever else I have value. I havent worked since April.

Likely an extension before a strike or working tentative until vote is organized.
I know he is saying 14th is a hard date… it isn’t.
Watch what they do… not what they say.

I still vote no strike fyi.
I heard that Ford hs already given out raises
