Hi there - drove from Denver CO to Austin TX last week and as soon as I entered Texas got pulled over by State Troopers twice for no reason within an hour and got warnings saying I changed lanes without using turn signal, my license plate was covered more than 50% and I was speeding little (WTH🤷🏻‍♂️) I wasn’t as I was on 70 with speed limit of 75. Anyone have similar experience?

It's called fishing. They are looking for drunk drivers or drug mules. People with nothing to hide generally drive 5-10mph over the speed limit. If you're going under the speed limit you look suspicious.

Exactly! If you don't want to look out of place, don't act out of place!

Revenuers. It’s a holiday weekend, and NHTSA has provided traffic enforcement grants; that’s use or lose $$$.

have a video camera and make sure it’s on.

Unfortunately....WELCOME TO TEXAS!!!
That's how they work. I've traveled through that state many times at many different routes. Been pulled over at least a half dozen times for one thing or another. And on one trip, I was pulled over twice in 5 MINUTES!!!

Texas loves to pull over out of state drivers. My wife was going driving through texas with some friends 15 years ago. They were pulled over because a vehicle allegedly saw them throw a cigarette but out the window and called the police. They searched the car top to bottom and actually arrested my wife and her friend. They took then to some double wide trailer makeshift jail they had set up, and told them they could pay $500 dollars each or they could sit in jail over the weekend until they could see a judge. Obviously they paid the $500 each and got the hell out of there. The cops explanation was because they were from out of state they could not make them pay a fine or show up to court if they left with just a citation. Mind you there was no proof of anything lol.

US287 is the worst, Especially around Decatur. My kiddo got pulled in a Chevy clown car (Maybe a volt) because he had CO plates. Not bagging on TXDPS because they do a great job in a lot of areas except harrasing roadies minding their own business.

Have you since uncovered your license plate?

It’s same plate that was given from dealership I still haven’t added my custom plate yet lol.. btw didn’t have any issue from cops here in CO so I really don’t think plate was an issue here in first place.

What must be remembered is that anyone driving a Mustang at or under the speed limit is instantly suspicious. Most of the problems are with hole in the wall towns running speed traps. It got bad enough in Oklahoma that they made it the law if more than X% of the revenue is from driving arrests, they can revoke the ability to patrol state roads. And it happened several times. One little town that was feuding with a large truck stop, got to the point they were taken over by the HP.

As Colorado is one of those recreational 4/20 states, I'd hazard a guess they stopped you and you passed the sniff test [ hopefully you aren't one of those who smokes and drives ] so they sent you on your way.
