Hi all,

I can't seem to find any recommendations on various threads here (there is a lot of them!) around what aftermarket shifter you all prefer.

I have a 2024 Dark Horse and I was recommended a Barton shifter by a new friend of mine in my car club, he swears they are the best.

Do you all have another brand that you can recommend? Thanks!

MGW for the win. Its not that the Barton is bad. The MGW is a piece of art and is really greatly engineered. Do your research for performance, ease of instalation and adjustability.
A piece of art. Too bad it's all covered up. A guy wanted a transmission mounted shifter for his Dark Horse, and was thinking MGW. I told him they don't make one. The one they make is not much different than stock. Since it is mounted on both tranny and chassis. Just like stock on the Mustangs Tremec.

Hmmm, I'll agree it's quite a work of art, possibly over engineered, maybe? The only thing I don't like about it is the reverse lockout being a push down instead of pulling up on a collar like stock. Barton has both types to choose from...

Do you ever find that you put it in reverse by accident when trying for first gear?

I have it adjusted so the only way reverse happens is to deliberately push down and bring over to the left. Bring shifter from nuetral straight left and forward for first. Pushing down has to be forceful.

Ok thanks... you have given me a lot to think about... I'll agree that the MGW looks a lot easier to install than the Barton and looks like it is more value for the money. Looks like they thought of everything when they engineered this stuff. I also like how they retained the factory boot without cutting it up too much and using a zip tie like Barton does.

Another +1 for the MGW. Makes the Dark Horse Tremec feel incredible and nearly eliminated the amount of 2nd gear lock outs I was having on quick no lift upshifts. You will not accidently put it in reverse. It takes a very deliberate push just to unlock the reverse gate.

Thanks all for your input... I order the MGW Shifter yesterday.
MGW is the same as stock. Both are hybrid, tranny and chassis mounted. All you need is a short shift street model from Steeda specifically for the Tremec.

I have the Barton and it seems fine, but I didn't have a lot of miles on my car before it was installed; so for the sake of comparison I can't really say how much better or worse it may be over the factory shifter.

You do have to make sure you're not buying the one for the GT's though. The correct one for the Tremec is the one they have listed as fitting the GT350R.

Installation is a bit of a chore as well. I highly recommend doing it on a lift if you are planning on doing it yourself. This way you can at least get under the car, have room to work and move, and be able to see everything.

The stock shifter sucks, which is why I am looking at aftermarket options... gonna try the MGW one out... Thanks!

Yeah I looked at the Steeda, but all it is is a replacement stick for the stock shifter base, which still mounts to both tranny and body for the MT-82 transmission.

I'm not trying to be mean. How are you missing second gear with a Tremec. I have had mine for 19 months and have never done that once and I use the no lift shifts sometimes.

No feelings hurt here. Awesome that you've never missed a shift. I don't have an objective answer for you and am totally ok with the answer being that I'm a worse driver than you :) Whatever my cause was, the MGW helped.

Like I said not trying to say anyone is better. I was just surprised you get hung up from first to second just never heard of that. Now I'm wondering if you meant going from second to third because I have done that many times in forty five years of driving stick. I'm also curious how much better the aftermarket shifters are. I have a short through in my 06 GT but I find the Dark Horse stock shifter feels nice. Anyhow I'll concede to your knowledge and experience as I was not looking for a competition.
