We've owned a Miata and they're a VERY fun car in serious twisties. They'll run away from a lot of things on, say, The Dragon, or anywhere there are serious twisties. They're light weight, wide, and have good tires on them. Soft compound tires are about all that are available for them. In a drag race, no, not built for that.
It's also often far more fun to "drive a slow car fast". My M3 and the New GT will run circles around my AP1 S2000, but it's still far more fun than either of them, especially on a winding road.

Sometimes the slow cars being driven fast can surprise you.

To this day, the fastest cars on the Hudson Valley goat path are not BMW's or Audi's or anything of the sort.

Its a group of 3 or 4 Honda fits with 265 wide summer performance tires up front. It looks goofy as fuck, but the speed at which they take corners is genuinely shocking. I could not believe my eyes, hahah. On that road, straight line acceleration doesn't matter, its very impressive what those little Hondas can do.

Watched them leave an M3 completely in the dust, it wasn't even close. The only other cars I've seen as quick as those Fits are tuned Evo's.
