Ok, I know what everyone is going to say, "be more careful and don't do it in the first place."

Well, we are past that point. I have some scratches down to the metal where the rim rubbed against a curb and the concrete chewed up a strip along the edge of the rim. Do they sell touch up paint for rims? Do I just suck it up? I took delivery of my order in 9/2024. Really don't want new rims. (this will likely happen again.)

I would appreciate any thoughts from your experience.

One of the many, many policies and plans pitched in the finance office before you close the deal is tire/wheel insurance. If you didn't buy this plan, you can contact your dealer and ask who they would use to recondition the rim. Contact the vendor directly and see what they charge, or do a Google search for alloy wheel restoration and see what is in your area.

I put these convex mirrors on all my cars. Pull up past where you want to park and back up carefully using the convex mirror and/or backup cameras. If you expect to rough up your rims again, try this and see if it reduces how often you meet the curb. Saved my life more than once in emergency highway lane changes too - eliminates the blind spot. I stick them on both mirrors.

All dealers have local guys who do rim repair on the cheap. Just ask for names or use google. I've done it on 2011 Synergy Camaro and 2023 AT4. Just like new.

Accidents happen! I curbed a rim on my previous s550 a few years ago and had a local rim repair shop fix it for a decent price (cheaper than buying a new rim). I'd go to one near you and get a quote

I remember the days when the only thing that got married was the sidewall. Seems rims are wider than the tires these days, and painted awful black too boot. Plain aluminum wouldn't show scratches so terribly. A neighbor was painting his nice chrome rims Black. I asked him why. He said they looked cool. I said to myself, Where's ICE when you need them? Go natural.

Love this idea, but then started thinking about just how small the side mirrors are on my S650 - that 2" diameter convex solution might replace most of my useable mirror (including the blind spot indicator)!

Why, oh why, hasn't some ingenuitive programmer come up with digital curb feelers? Optical would probably be the cleanest look (instead of these old tv antennas), but I'd even consider something like this that used resistive strain gauges to trigger a notification in the car.

However, this does also lead me to my biggest complaint (well 2nd biggest) about the S650 - extremely poor camera placement. I get distortion (parallaxing) between the two backup guides (the actual and the predicted). I get ZERO side or front facing views. With the amount of creature-comfort electronics they put in everywhere else, this seems like such a poor miss.
My biggest complaint is really just a whine, but I want my drive tree to light up on the actual shift console, not only on the digital console. Ford made the decision a number of years ago across all its models (so boo to them), but again - where's my aftermarket world solving these critical problems with simple solutions?

I believe it was Tucker that had tires come down, and take the car sideways to park instead if backing up and going forwards countless times. But on the S650 that would add at least 200 lbs. Are even had a headlight that would turn as you go around a corner. Back in the day we used Curb Feelers. Now we see them and laugh.

Correct, (although they used to list all the accessories, int, and wheel colors for paint systems) I looked into it, nothing listed currently. You have to go to a body shop that has a decent paint system. Use the alt decks, you will find a color that matches. Have them mix up a couple of ounces of touchup paint.

The way tires and wheels are made today, the wheel is about as wide as the tire. See that way the tires in that photo in the post above looks. Most you'd do is marr your tires. Now wheels are ruined. They should thrown in a little bottle of the same paint they used in when you purchase your car. And have them available at dealers in case they're needed.

That's a stretch, no pun intended. But I know this do diligence, and awareness of your and our parking abilities should avoid those problems. Not roket science. I'm 58 can't remember the last time I curb rashed a rim? My kids, oh that's normal, perfect! Lmao
