Hey all, new to the s650 platform , coming from s550. I've had the car just under 3 weeks, and unfortunately with my luck a deer came running out right in front of me and I hit the poor thing. Thankfully got video of it but that's irrelevant.

Anyways, checking the damage out the past few days it only damaged the front bumper slightly and the grille+active Grille Shutters, no other damage anywhere. I am now having a check engine light which I've confirmed is from the shutters. That brings me to the main question: Is there any way to disable this with Forscan or anything or get rid of the check engine another way? I have a new bumper coming in soon and I'd like to remove the shutters if possible. It is not a big deal if i'm not able to. Thanks in advance!

I cannot help you with the Forscan question but will offer up another potential solution with some caveats (damage wise). Did the accident (deer) only damage the shutters not the housing or surround? If the surround is fine the easiest thing to do is remove the shutters and leave the actuator connected. Again this assumes that part wasn't damaged. Basically, what I saying is the actuator would still work but move nothing i.e. still wired up.

The shutter themselves are very easy to remove. Again the rest of the system would need to be still intact to clear the DTC.

To help you better understand what I'm saying check out the Whipple instructions for non-performance pack GT. The shutters get removed as part of the install. Further you can check out a YouTube video from Murphy's Law Garage (Whipple Stage 1 install) where he shows the process of removing the shutters but still leaves the actuator connected because the Whipple instructions were unclear whether to reconnect. He reconnected to avoid a possible DTC. More than likely Whipple/Ford covered this is with their programming but who knows.

I see, sadly the surrounding was damaged in the process. But that gives me something to look on if I can get a replacement part. I appreciate that a bunch!

You'll need to replace the surrounding damaged part. It serves a couple functions that being directing airflow and support. No way around needing to replace this.

Good to know, I’ll look for a replacement in that case!

From what I’ve tested unplugging seems to not do anything, but I also haven’t tested that enough. I’ll test again and report back just out of curiosity. I can also post pics of the damage if needed.

i would take all the slats out so the motor can turn freely and leave it plugged and and see if it works after that and code goes away

a few whipple install guides have how to remove them

Will try this next, just confirmed unplugging does nothing and will cause the code to come back just for anyone curious.
