Does anyone have this read diff. gear whine at 60-70 mph?

Started out small when the car was brand new and it's slightly louder now with 650 miles on it.

My S550 developed that at about 55k miles. It was noticeable at above 40 mph or so. It turned out there were metal shavings in the diff fluid and new gears were needed. Fortunately it was covered by the powertrain warranty.

You shouldn't be having an issue like that with a new car. I would check your differential fluid level.

I noticed the same weak "whooo" noise on mine between 62 - 74 mph (100 - 120 km/h) when coasting, I waited until I had a little over 1500 miles and changed the differential oil using Ford 75W-85 and XL-3 additive. Later I found out that this additive is only required for the Traction-Lok diffs and not required for the Torsen diff (which the Dark Horse has).

The noise almost disappeared but came back within about 600 miles or 1000 km, so I'm currently running the Amsoil Severe Gear SVL 75W-85 and that one is quiet so far. Their tech support told me to run the oil as-is without adding the XL-3. I did some slow tight turns with the windows down and did not hear any noises so it seems to work fine.

The magnet had very little fur on it at the 1st and basically none at the 2nd change. With the factory fill and the subsequent Ford oil fill the powertrain error memory had an intermittent "differential cooler pump performance" error code saved but that was never shown on the dashboard. That error code has not reappeared with the Amsoil oil.

EDIT: Be aware that you need a scantool to activate the diff cooler pump when changing the diff oil, I have a cheap Launch scanner which was able to do it
