I'm hoping some of our forum members can help me with an issue thats cropped up. I ordered some wheels online from a seller on EBay and they ended up arriving damaged. Looks like one of the wheels had something dropped on it. Does the damage in everyones opinion look like something that can be repaired to like new condition?

I've tried mobile wheel repair places in the past (what the ebay seller recommended) and been less than impressed with the results. They said it should just be a 50 to 75 dollar fix, but looking at the gouge, which is into the metal, that didnt match what Ive found in the past. Was curious what you guys would do in this situation?

Depends how picky and meticulous of a person you are.
Personally I'd want a new rim, but if it's a smalltime seller and they don't stock multiple of these, you may just have to accept mobile repair, DIY touch-up paint/body shop match, or like 25-50% discount off that one wheel

I admit I'm pretty picky with my car but try to be reasonable. The seller in question is Shelby American so I would think they are a pretty decent size seller. They said they don't have any more of these wheels though.

I tried to work with them to find a local shop and they cover the cost of repair, but they were unwilling. They offered me 100 discount as it "should only be 50-75 dollars to have it fixed" but I'm sure it will cost significantly more than that. If I return them they wouldn't agree to cover shipping costs back, so all told I would be out the approx. $600 shipping cost both ways. Not sure what to do to be honest, but worried I might be stuck with a damaged wheel.....

You received damaged product and 100% in a position to get full refund and coverage for shipping costs. I had the same issue once with DiscountTireDirect and they swallowed return cost no questions asked. Involve eBay support first. In most cases sellers insure their shippings, if they didn't eBay should still be able to help. If necessary, dispute the transaction via your bank.

Second part is just my opinion, but I suppose wheel was damaged before shipping, they new that and just shipped it as is. Properly packed wheel is very hard to damage like that, two layers of cardboard would prevent it. Leave 1 start review right now, it really helps.

I'm sorry it's happened to you and wish you successful resolution of it.

Looks like the shipping company probably dropped another package on top of your box. I don't know if I'd hold the seller responsible, but I'd probably contact the shipping company and negotiate compensation.

Have you had any luck with Ebay support getting the seller to cover shipping back? I contacted Shelby and they wouldnt agree to cover it, hence why I was looking at the option of having the wheels repaired locally.

Finding thats not as easy as it sounds. Local wheel repair guy says he coudnt guarantee a 100% color match and says its a powder coat color. He did say their repair estimate was off and no way it would be as cheap as they said, so at least I know I was right about that LOL

It's a mixed bag with eBay, but usually they are helpful. Also, leave 1 star review, it really helps, like a lot. Sellers jump on issues right away after 1 star review. Mention shipping costs there and post photo of the damaged wheel.

If I bought "new" wheels, there is absolutely no way I would accept damaged merchandise (and try to repair myself), especially if the seller is the legit 'Shelby American' company.

Even if it's not, that's what eBay's Money Back Guarantee is for.

Your attempt to repair could void your refund claim with eBay.

It depends on if these are new or take-off wheels.

I just bought a set of take-offs from Shelby American on Ebay last month. I can't see how that could have happened during shipping, as mine arrived very well protected. I suspect that was there before shipping.

If they are take-offs then you're probably stuck with what you got. If they where new, then Shelby needs to replace one or do better than $100. I suspect these are take-offs like mine.

So I'd suggest two posible courses of action-

1. File a claim with Fedex. If they were truly damaged during shipping then it's on them. Just be prepared for a brutal process.

2. Take the wheel to repair place and get a real quote to fix it. If its more than $100, get it writing and ask Shelby for a credit. To me this will be the easiest and least painful solution.

This is how mine arrived-

If you decide to get it repaired you want someone that has experience. I'm super picky. Many here have a $150 minimum. With many high end cars in Scottsdale I picked one that worked on those. He came to the house and repaired it without having to unmount the tire. Mine was curb rash much worse than yours. I hope the best for you getting this resolved.
$165 like new again.

Unless Shelby American included a description of the damages in the auction post, in the pics themselves, or had a disclaimer on the listing (e.g., "sold as is"), the eBay Money Back Guarantee process is another viable option.

I agree the easiest is to get it repaired and get SA to reimburse, but if you attempt a repair, it doesn't work out, and they didn't/don't agree to cover the cost, you've hosed your eBay claim.
