No Spare Tire

The inflater/sealer kit in our rental Peugeot was crap.
Now I carry my bike sealer kit in the car. It's got what is known as dog turds that you coat in sealer and insert into the puncture with the applicator tool. It also has CO2 cartridges, but they are for bike tyres you'd need a few for a Mustang rear tyre. I did 1500 kms on one of those repairs because the tyre was nearly worn out, and I didn't want to pay for a proper repair.
I also carry my Temu pump, it actually works OK.

In one instance, I was really lucky and fortunate; that time taught me the necessity of carrying a spare.

Partway through a metro area, the rental I just signed for generated a TPMS alarm. I'd been driving for like 10 minutes, so I gave it some more time, to see if things would stabilize, or heat from the driving would silence the alarm.

Nearing the edge of the city and about to enter a long rural stretch, I pulled over for a visual. While I couldn't see the nail, I could hear the leak. Slime and a compressor was all I had. The problem was too big for that.

Fortunately, I was able to limp to a tire shop, and get the tire repaired. Failure would have resulted in a completely wasted trip (short timeline).

If something similar happened in my home town, while I could park my own vehicle and take an Uber, not every business is welcome to people parking broke rides and scrambling to cobble a spare. Tow trucks? That's possible, if a flat bed is available so as not to wreck the splitter.

I removed the Mustang slime and air compressor. In it's place, an Automotive Authority spare. To compliment that, a set of jumper cables, capable of carrying all the amperage I'd need.

I'd rather take the performance hit on the butt dyno than scramble for solutions in the middle of nowhere.

One never knows when a tire will go flat. I was towing a brand new boat and trailer to the launch ramp 2 miles from my home. As I was ready to back into the water someone yelled one of the trailer tires was flat. I bought the thing just weeks before. Found a side tear. I had a spare but no way of changing it. Unloaded the boat, tied it to the dock and drove to the dealer about a half mile away and they changed the tire. Since then I have a jack for the trailer and a lug wrench. You may go years without a flat or drive off the lot with a new car and catch a nail. You never know.

Anyone considering slime should study that specific brand or product. The chemicals used in them can impact the rubber of the tire, potentially affecting any future repairs.

It's going to coat the sensor in the wheel. I could see where it'd render the sensor unusable.

Anyone have any problems with orders from this company?

I had a really good experience ordering mine.

Initially, I placed the order on-line, then received a confirmation. Later, someone from Customer Service reached out, via e-mail. AA wanted to confirm the size rim/tire I was running and model of the vehicle, to ensure their spare would fit and be a good match. It did. Their offer was within 3% of my existing aftermarket tire and a near dead match for the original, when considering circumference. They also confirmed it would go over the Brembos.

The spare then shipped. I received within the week.

The tire slips under the trunk liner. You'll cut away some of the liner felt underneath. Once done, know one can tell there's a spare under the panel.

I also got AA's jack, a small, space saver scissor jack.

Now you may want to spring some jacking rails. That'll keep you from damaging the pinch welds people like to use when jacking the car up.

I ordered one from Automotive Authority$459.99. I haven’t taken it out of the box yet. Don’t know if it will fit front & rear or in the spare tire well. I also carry the slime until I figure it out.

I heard Ford has a new kit under $400. I have no idea what it comes with. I seen it on the Ford parts .com, but didn't pay attention to it.

Ford has offered spare tires in the past, but they where for the smaller brakes. PP cars and Dark Horse need aftermarket spare kits
I have the Automotive Authority I used it on my 19 GT PP and now my Dark Horse. Tight fit in trunk well, but it close to tire diameter. And supplied jack works with pinch wrlds.

when i ordered from them, they told me it was on back order for 3 months or something liek that. i still ordered them and to my surprise they showed up within a month and a half.

To me, that little compressor and tire sealant system isn't exactly confidence inspiring if/when needed. I know it's lighter in weight but most cars won't be raced, and I doubt gas mileage would be affected by a real spare.

Anyone here had to use the system and was the outcome successful or worse, unsuccessful?

Anyone ditched the system and put a "real" spare back there? Those aren't exactly great either. Guess we just need to drive around nails......

That's a great price. Especially if it comes with a jack and lug wrench. I'm going to need about four or more of them. But they may not fit the DH or GT-PP. Not sure about the Ecoboost PP we have.

I used ez spare and it went smooth and got my spare shipped quick. The only down side was they only Had a red wheel/rim. Not a deal breaker as it’s only to be used during emergencies to get me to a tire shop. I did look at other options but we’re on back order and I didn’t want to wait. They also clear my bigger brakes.

Best insurance policy against damaged pinch welds is jacking rails. I first heard about them I couldn't figure what they were, maybe for jacking up car (making rear end higher like we did way back when). Just never know when you'll get something worse than a mere nail. With these hardly existent sidewalls we have the sidewall could get slashed by junk on the road.
