Most people are overwhelming negative, sucks but it's the way people are. I think the GTD is a really weird decision but still a super cool car. Can't wait to watch the Nurburgring documentary.
I remember when the GTD first came out, and I was kinda taken aback, first by the price, but secondly, because it was falsely being reported at the time that the GTD was the GT 500 successor. We know now that isn't the case. This thing is now one of my life long dream cars, this and a newer Ford gt because those things are unbelievably stunning, still haven't seen one in person but I'm told it looks insane.

The gt3 has a 6:44.84 ā€˜ring time.
Ford amd multimatic stated in an interview the point of the Gtd was the best the gt3.
Sub-7 isn’t the goal. Beating the gt3 is the goal.

They made a big deal of claiming the massive horsepower deficit between the two cars would be enough to accomplish the goal with all the rest done to the Mustang.

a 6:44 or under would be amazing. Here’s hoping they succeeded.
Watch the time be (S)6:50.00 šŸ˜‚

there is no chance this car will be near 6:44. I will be surprised if it breaks 7:00. still an awesome car but be realistic, 6:44 ain't happening. The ZR1 might come closer to 6:44. Maybe.

we’ll see. the car has a much better suspension and far better engine than the GT3. Multimatic seemed certain it would take care of the gt3.

still, a 6:44 is insane. Still holding out hope. I’ve posted repeatedly that Ford didn’t do enough in the powertrain dept. and I still feel that way. But if the car actually does what they built it to do, then all is forgiven in my book.

i ā€heardā€ they went sub 7 right away. Subsequent runs were getting increasingly quicker until they ran into limiting weather

6:44vor better is a long way from ā€œsub 7.ā€ If they lightweighted the car enough, I can see it. If it’s heavy, i Doubt it.

Just a few more hours now fellas! What if they went 6:50 with room for more once the weather gets better next year?

So I want to be VERY clear about this. But the official Ford mustang social media account, I believe on Instagram, hearted a particular comment. What did the comment say? That the GTD better get a lap time of 6:40 or faster.

Speed phenom recently discussed this. Why would an official Ford account heart that comment, and from the looks of it, that specific comment, it doesn't look like they're just hearting every comment. Why would a Ford run social media account that presumably has to clear all of their actions with Ford heart a comment, making it stand out, if the GTD wasn't getting close to that time?

They know how fast it went, the person running the social media account presumably has early access to the documentary, and has seen it. This could be absolutely nothing, for all we know, the vid comes out and we find Ford hasn't even set a fast lap yet and this is just build up. But it's a very interesting choice to make as a brand.

Wasn't it quite heavy? I thought I read something like around 1.9 tons... If they can't get the weight down to maybe 1.5 tons then I don't see them beating anybody...

I'm excited to see the final lap|but if the car didn't loose a substantial amount of weight 'sub 7' is all one can hope for...

well the closest comparisons we have are the DHR vs the DH

the Dark Horse comes in around 3950lbs. IMSA Regulations state the Dark Horse Rs minimum weight is 3630LBS, so roughly 300lbs less than the road car.

now lets apply this to the GT3 vs the GTD

IMSA BoP for Petit LeMans had the GT3 at 1315KG (2899lbs). assuming a bit more than 300lbs difference due to a different engine and transmission lets be generous and say 500lbs and that gives us 3400lbs or ~1.7tons or roughly 100-150lbs heavier than the GT3RS

If the GTD actually made 6:44 or better, it deserves serious accolades.

hopefully the lap times are revealed in the doc tomorrow.
