Got denied for a GTD. What's the next regular high performance Mustang coming down the pike?

Lately I've been looking for low mileage S550. '19-'20 GT350(R) or a Mach1.
The GT350s are getting more and more expensive by the day... it's crazy. The Mach 1 on the other hand is just a slightly tuned GT with left over parts. Nothing truely special about it although the performance isn't all too bad. However, the Shelby has a nicer interior and a flat plane V8 is a flat plane V8.

I was looking at a few '19-'20 GT350's. I had a '16 GT350 that Ford bought back (after the engine crapped out) and replaced that one with a '17. I may have put 5K on the second GT350 before I sold it. After my experience I just didn't have confidence that the Voodoo would stay together for any length of time. I did love that engine however and had heard that Ford made improvements with the Gen II engine 5.2 Voodoo so I was considering the 19-20's.

At the same time I was also looking at Mach 1's. Many discount it and call it a parts bin car. I really don't see that as a negative. The Coyote is a great engine, and the Mach 1 has the slightly upgraded Bullet engine. Other than having a powerplant that isn't as exotic but more reliable in comparison (and more streetable torque lower in the power band) the Mach 1 has many of the best parts out of all the S550's. I still have the experience of my old '16 GT350 and certainly didn't want to have another experience like that out of warranty.

Long story short, I found '23 Mach 1 with just less than 3K miles on it loaded w/ the handling pkg. Two years left on the original warranty , Ford Gold Certified Pre Owned on top of that which includes a 7yr/100K powertrain warranty. I think it looks great, handling wise it's right up there with any of the S550's. I actually like the readout and the M1 Recaros better than the GT350's. I love the GT350's but the downside of the FPC could really bite you in the ass.

So this will hold me over until Ford shows me something else to consider:

I love your Mach 1 … just something about a handling package Mach 1… they are just aggressive….

yes the 19 and 20 350s come with the GT500 Predator block and a bunch of other changes … there was one run of generation 2 cars that had issues and people lost their motor but it was a problem due to some faulty parts from a supplier and Ford put out a recall for the cars that were effected…

I love the Coyote motor … the voodoo is definitely more temperamental… if you don’t follow “the rules” then yes even the generation 2 cars break but for those that do… we are now seeing generation 2 motors with anywhere from 50k to 70k miles with no oil burning and no issues …

like you when I was looking I limited my search to 19s and 20s…. Lots of guys with a ton of miles in their earlier cars now but I just couldn’t do it …. That being said the Mach was a strong consideration for me…that and the GT500…

Took me a year to decide… some mornings I woke up convinced I was going to buy a Mach…. Some mornings it was the 500… and some days it was the 350….

all I know is what a wonderful time to be alive to have so many great options…

When I had mine I always let it warm up before getting on it a bit, it didn't burn oil, checked that all the time etc. I was driving home from work on a surface street cruising at maybe 40 mph, between traffic lights my display lit up, had crunching noises under the hood and coolant spitting out of the exhaust. I always wanted to know what exactly happened to it. Six months later I had my '17. Love that voodoo engine, glad to hear that Ford had finally sorted most of the issues w/ the Gen II engine.

Albeit maybe a bit too bright, had I found a good M1 in Velocity Blue I'd have pulled the trigger on it. Ford Performance Blue is the best color on any S550. Mine was Lightning Blue which was just a bit toned down from Velocity. Great looking R you've got. I would ordered one just like yours 👍

Thanks. Got any pics of a M1 w/ similar HP color wheels, nice concave 5-8 spoke wheel? The nest weave HP wheels are going to be a huge PIA to keep clean.

This was one of our customers, unfortunately we weren’t able to do a photoshoot with it. This is our Classic 5 V2.
