Ford Posts All-Time Monthly Hybrid Sales Record
S650 Mustang Mustang April 2024 Sales & Production: 4,657 Sold / 5,422 Produced 1714664928719

Customer reception to Ford hybrid vehicles continues to accelerate, with U.S. sales reaching 17,997 in April, a 60 percent improvement from the same month a year ago and a new monthly record.

Sales of the new F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid set a new monthly record in April – up 93.6% – making F-150 Hybrid America’s top-selling full-size hybrid pickup. Early customers of the new 2024 model are overwhelmingly choosing to upgrade to the available 7.2kW Pro Power Onboard feature, which brings power to a jobsite, tailgate party, or power appliances during a power outage.

So far this year, Maverick Hybrid is the best-selling hybrid pickup overall; customers bought 26,061 Maverick Hybrid trucks over the first four months of 2024. Most of those customers – 59% – are coming from other brands and segments, notably trading in their small SUVs for a Maverick.

I would really like to know what Ford's internal sales predictions were for the S650. I can't imagine that they thought it would be selling less than the last year of the S550 at this time.

Like to know why if sales are down, production is surpassing sales, but many are waiting months and months for a VIN.

System make no sense.

Sales are down because inflation has pushed interest rates way up, caused prices on everything from groceries, clothing, housing, transportation, and everything else to skyrocket, and the never-ending social unrest and pandemic have got people worried that the next major event will leave them without a job. That's why people aren't buying fun "sports cars".

The pandemic wreaked havoc on the supply base. Accept it or not, it's taking a long time to get production at the Tier 1 and 2 suppliers back in order.

Many of those waiting months and months for a VIN are ordering options that they don't build in the cold months (e.g., vehicles with summer only tires).

There's a myriad of reasons why all those conditions exist right now.

The waits for Vin's are random.
Two people have ordered the exact same car from the same dealer within days of each other.
First person had a predicted build of 5th April but that came and went with out a vin.
Second person had to wait a month for confirmation and then got a vin for build in May.

They've also committed (produced vins / scheduled build) for cars that haven't been ordered / reserved, but wont do a vin for the same car in a different colour all because they've sold all of that colour already.

It's production madness to build cars people don't want but refuse to build a car that people do just because they've made to many of them already. Follow supply with demand.
