Anyone know if the MT82-D4 has the same internal ratios as the Tremec?

I had basically the same question. My 96 mustang is a generation earlier transmission that had a weakness in the 3/4 gear fork. It was latter fixed however my transmission never received the fix. It currently has 170,000 miles on it without failing. Probably the reason it hasn't failed is I don't force shifts and allow it to drop into gear.
That said, my primary reason for getting the Dark horse was because it has the Tremec transmission and I wanted something that would last. I plan on putting about 200,000 miles on the car and at the current rate, it should last the rest of my life.
I have an '06 with the TR-3650 Tremec, it is not exactly a smooth shifting transmission, even with a short throw shifter. I occasionally have the 2-3 lockout, but I just put light pressure on the gear shifter, double tap the clutch and it goes right in. I also ordered the DH with the Tremec 6M. I am wondering how much difference there will be between the two other than the extra gear.

I did look at the gearing in both and the TR-3160 seems to have a much closer ratio between 1st and 2nd than the TR-3650, not to mention the higher rear gear:

Gear:2006 GT (TR-3650):Dark Horse (TR-3160):
Rear Axle3.553.73
1st3.383.25
2nd2.002.23
3rd1.321.61
4th1.001.24
5th0.681
6th0.63
Reverse3.382.95

I am really looking forward to rowing the gears on the DH!!

Is this good ?

The Tremec has more aggressive ratios over the Getrag MT-82D4. They are not the same, 1:1 for the D4 is 4th, while it's 5 the for the Tremec in the DH.

100%

Do not give us an engine that has to spin to 7,000 RPM and beyond before it finally wakes up, and then saddle us with a transmission that can only handle 4,500 RPM shifts. That's the dumbest piece of engineering I've ever seen in my life. Like I have said before, the MT82 zaps every bit of the fun out of this car. I will never buy a MT82 ever again. Ever.

If you want to drive slow, never "race" or "mod" the car, then why buy a Mustang GT?

If you do want to race, mod, or enjoy the speed of the car, then why buy a MT82 that will prevent all of those things?

The A10 should be the only option. It's simple.

« The A10 should be the only option. It's simple. » 😳 No. No and no… Nothing can replace the pleasure of driving an atmospheric V8 coupled with a manual transmission. And that's all.

A set of 4.09 gears would have gone along way to alleviate the mediocre ratios with the D4. My 2020 GT feels like a different car with the 4.09s and the FR Power Kit.

I just went from a 20 GT with PP1, to a 13 Boss 302, the difference in gearing of that 82 is huge, you are right about the 4.09 gears, hell 4.30's might even be better

I would have done 4.30s but the Ford Performance Power Kit ProCal only supports up to 4.09. I have to say though, with the 4.09s and cold weather even with Mich PSS 305/35/19s the traction is dicey.
