On a less joking note, that rifle is very hard to control on full auto. No, I am not old enough to have been issued one (M16A1, lol), but I have shot one, a transferable that I was considering purchasing in the 90s. It was very tough to keep the muzzle from climbing up and up.

It was really a bad idea for an assault rifle. .308 never was really designed for that role and was a bad attempt to copy what the Germans and then the Soviets had already done (e.g., the Soviets used their 7.62 battle rifle cartridge and designed a shorter, 39 mm case, but the US only dropped the 30-06 from the Garand battle rifle case length down to 51mm, making for a way too powerful rifle to use on full auto).

Like it or not, and it had teething pains, the 5.56 was a far better assault rifle cartridge, so much so that the Soviets later copied us and dropped the caliber of their AK-47 to 5.45, making an already controllable assault rifle even easier to use (the AK74).

OK, enough of this aside. Back to tripods and traffic disasters.
Point taken. However, in my experience, when you really really really wanted to reach out and touch someone or needed stopping power in dense underbrush, the 14 was great. I'll admit that I'm a bit biased about the 14. The Corps only started issuing 16s when I was close to rotating home and I chose to keep my 14 until I left. I never had a problem with it because of its weight or length and if you were short on ammo, that wood-stock made a great club! Not trying to get in a debate about the pros and cons of the two weapons, just killin' time jawin' back and forth. Take Care Junkyard Dog!

Any AR15 can be equipped with a forced reset trigger nowadays.
Getting them to run right, that's another story.
But when they do, it's, for all practical purposes, full auto.
Lemme know if you want to see videos!
I have two from Rare Breed. 😁

Ooops!

So yeah, about them tri-pods. My buddy down in Colorado Springs says those things are an open invitation for the police to pull you over. Most of the cops down there, he claims, will pull you over just for having it on the car.

F___ Rare Breed. Those bastards made a deal with the devil and are now running around filing lawsuits against FRT manufacturers whose designs have nothing to do with their design. They even filed a patent on the Super Safety, an invention of Hoffman Tactical, and then sued Hoffman. Hoffman had shared his design for free on the internet and encouraged others to use it with no licensing or fees.

Rare Breed got a preliminary injunction in federal court forcing Hoffman to remove his designs from the internet.

Plus, Rare Breed is not the cutting edge. If you want that, check out AS Designs and the V2 of their Arc- Fire, in which you can use Geissele match triggers for a much better experience both in FRT and in regular semi mode (you can also use a standard mil-spec trigger, which it comes with for free). They seem to be the best FRT design out there in 2026.

I think they're suing pretty much anyone that tries to make a FRT, even if it resets by way of a crank!

Thank you for your service and dealing with the commies, Trella.

I was not in the military. I was in the Air Force. It is kind of like the military.

😡

🤬

Yeah, I feel better after venting a little . . .

But they will not see a dollar from me, and I would have been a big supporter - although when I was considering buying one they were difficult to find due to the ATF and the injunction in the ED NY (and the ATF seizing their stock when they tried to move it from the manufacturer). It seemed like they were fighting the good fight. What they are doing now is just wrong.

I hear ya! I got mine a while back on the recommendation of a friend, before I knew anything about them or what they were doing. Hindsight being what it is, I would have likely gone with another brand.

Don't sell the Air Force short. We loved "Puff the Magic Dragon" / "Spooky", BUFFs and A1 Skyraiders. They were AWESOME!!

How did this turn into a gun debate? That was quick lol. I forgot what the thread was about.
It was about kiddos driving around with rear-window tripods as they're about to do high-speed highway pulls and other stuff to put the general motoring public in danger

It's about some two bit punk thinking his sh*t don't stink and trying to avoid taking responsibility for his killing another person with his stupidity. And if you think he is not stupid, remember he was video tapping himself committing the crime.

While I never got tired of watching Puff make a run, the AF pissed me off by taking the OV-1 Mohawk weapons capability away from the Army.
