most emission's places dont care long as you have cats to pass the visual inspection i dont think the oem cats only rule is enforceable because what if oem is no longer available. i think they reworded the rule to say any epa certified cat is ok now.

1996 and newer when obd2 was made standard they wont use the sniffer they go by the check engine light and readiness monitors

but some emission's places are very annoying and just looking to make a buck
or are monster's and hit your cats with a hammer to make sure they are not "gutted"
They hit them with a hammer where you live?

Excellent post, by the way. The "sniffer" has no application to S650 cars. Anything that shows a relevant system is not ready yet, and they tell you to come back later, as it will not pass. Anything that trips a check engine light means a failure.

I do not see a way around the catalytic converter issue on the 2024-25 cars as of today.

I don't know if anybody has aftermarket catalytic converters to bold on to the headers that will survive a supercharger longer term.

NY and now PA .saw that in NY them hitting cats with a hammer.
they said it was to check they are not gutted...
the real reason is probably to induce slow failure and in a few yours you go back to them to replace it from it cracking away from the walls

With respect to the bolded in your post, in Georgia, they are required to look for catalytic converters. While the 20 bucks they get paid on one inspection may not mean much all by itself, that is not even close to what is at stake. The failure to check for catalytic converters can put them out of business. The state sends inspectors very regularly to watch or pose as customers. If they see an inspection without checking for a catalytic converter, then the operator risks losing his license to operate an emissions station. Now he has rent and investments in equipment, etc., that generate zero revenue. It can literally cause a bankruptcy.

They do not put the car on a lift, but they do use a mirror on a stick and look for the converter.
Where I live we had emission testing once a year. However after 30 years they realised cars today are so much better that they stopped testing. On my 06 GT I made up a crossover that had cats put it on before inspection then after the test just switched back to my catless x pipe and re flashed my tune. Yes they had mirrors and looked for cats. Thank God we don't do it anymore.

I had Kooks green catted headers on my S550 and did not get a CEL or have any issues with passing inspection in NC, where they check via OBD. Just FYI for the poster that asked about the green headers on an S550.

Anybody running these on the S650?

Didn't they used to sell dummy o2 sensors that would always report good on the computer even if the cats were removed?
