People are willing to say they will pay large ADMs, but then back out of deals. Happens all the time. Some dealers threaten one just to see if you're serious, since many people are not. Some will mark up the car more if you want a "weird" color since it becomes harder to sell in their eyes.
I called quite a few dealers when I was hunting down my GT500. The range of responses was honestly bewildering. I got salesmen who were unexplainably defensive, dealers who immediately mentioned huge markups, many who just didn't understand the system, and how it worked at all promising stupid things like guaranteeing allocations they clearly did not have, and some who just didn't want to deal with customers who knew even slightly more than they did about what was going on. There were of course, a few that were "normal", and knew what was going on but had their allocations spoken for, or who knew they were not paid into the system to get one.
I'm sure its the same thing all over again, except now the car costs even more.
