What's the point of owning the Mustang GT if it feels like you're towing a house? I'd sell it if I felt that way, no question. Almost sounds like you're driving in limp mode and you don't know it..... But you probably don't know what limp mode is. Something's wrong. GTs are awesome.

I found this little excerpt that was posted just recently while fooling around in my fluid spec and recall lookup at work today. Looks like a user submitted fix that has been performed by a few shops so far, might be worth having your dealer investigate if this is the issue if you aren't throwing any check engine lights still.

Engine Lacks Power, Replaced Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor

Complaint
The customer states the engine lacks power.
Cause
Confirmed the customer's complaint and found the engine lacked power. Inspected the air intake system and found no faults. Performed an inspection of the engine coolant temperature sensor wiring harness and connector, but detected no obvious faults. With the ignition on and the engine off, used a multi-meter to check for the presence of voltage and ground at the engine coolant temperature sensor connector and found both were present. Using the multi-meter, measured the resistance of the engine coolant temperature sensor and found the resistance was not within the specified range.
Correction
Replaced the engine coolant temperature sensor and verified the vehicle operated properly. The customer's concern did not return.

^Interesting find.

To OP's point, I do think what he's describing is the nature of a heavy V8 that needs to be revved out for maximum attack vs a lighter turbo/torquey-at-low-RPM car.

I felt the same way in my 2021 Camaro LT1 (V8) vs my 2017 Camry (4cyl). To my surprise, the Camry felt "more instantly responsive off the line" because it was lighter, and had a torquey low-end. Now if I did higher-throttle hard launches between the two, obviously the V8 would win, but at low-throttle inputs puttin' around town, lightweight commuter cars can feel "more responsive" than big roaring V8s. The noise of the V8 can also make a new driver instinctively not apply as much throttle, so that can further emphasize the "slow to get going" feeling.

Nothing against big V8s, but it did make me want to try the other side, the lightweight GR86 type of car. Those can feel very fun precisely because they feel "more instantly responsive". So if that's what OP wants, may consider test driving one of those.

That's a cool find.

If I'm understanding the comments correctly, the PCM would be thinking the engine is running hotter than expected, and then go into limp mode. At one extreme, it could be so bad the temps appear maxed out. But the resistance could also be off just enough to report at the upper end of a given range without exceeding it.

Yeah that seems to be it. My buddy had a similar problem on his Audi A4. Some cars use two different coolant temp sensors like his Audi did. One for the gauge and one to tell the PCM what the engine is doing. If the PCM sees that the engine is getting warm or conversely thinks it is -40 it will try cut power to protect the engine, even though the gauge reads okay and the cluster won't prompt any sort of warning.

Just adding a general reply-update after my visit to Ford Services.

I spoke with a Services expert and had a mechanic running tests on the car (he drove the car and ran the system diagnosis looking for errors).

The guy pretty much said the car drives as it should and the feeling of lugging is expected because of the high torque.

It seems it's pretty much a matter of being a noob. At least I know everything is fine with my car and I can work on getting used to driving it.

Thank you for all the help.

@Maunissan Respectfully.....take it to the dealer. I agree that, from your own words, you don't know much about your car. Regardless of what you have driven the 2024 mustang is a fast vehicle. It's either you or the car. The dealer can tell you which.

I felt some disappointment with the throttle response of the s650 gt when test driving. The car did feel quite heavy from a standstill, and it really felt sluggish off the start with lighter throttle application. Adding significantly more throttle pressure would then boost the car forward, but it always felt ungainly. I drove three different vehicles, all of which felt similar.

People make a big deal over the Voodoo having no power or acceleration, but it feels worlds smoother in acceleration and the general feel of vehicle size in the 350 felt better.

My old S195 with a v6 had much less power and obviously was slower, but it never felt quite so sluggish as the gt. All of these things pushed me from buying an s650 into a Supra, so maybe something like that is what the OP is experiencing?

No hate against the gt, but as others have said, you probably really need to 'get on it' to get the power and acceleration out, and it IS way too heavy.

What gear ratio did you get? My guess is a 3.15. What octane fuel are you using? Lets start there.

My friend im sorry to say that sounded a little bit offensive?
I bought the car because I like it and because I can. I like Mustangs and I dont think its a pre-requisite to be a pro driver or mechanic to buy one.

I didnt ask any questions or did any test drive before buying it. I just nevet wondered the car drivng-handling could feel any way but f. awesome. Its just feels a way more sluggish that I could think it would. And my question is if thats expected or if theres something wrong either with my driving or the car.

And tbh I would have bought it even if I had felt that the car runs exactly as I feel it today. I still love my car.

not questioning if noobs like me should buy a Mustang. But I appreciate your answer. Ty
The best thing you can do is just drive it and have fun.
It’s a mustang. People will go by and give you the thumbs up.
If you want to burn rubber just punch it.
It will burn rubber. I don’t recommend it in the city, I have a 2024 GT active exhaust 486 horse and you have to be careful because if you do punch it, tires cost money. So do Speeding Tickets?
If your GT seems sluggish take it to your dealer.
Let them burn 🔥 out your tires.
Have Fun.
