Like I said on 6g, a prominent youTuber, who will go unmentioned, hinted at Ford possibly announcing 2 new models. A Boss with a 7.3L platform and an AWD Hybrid Cobra as the step just below the GTD. 8 days to Press day

Wow, if true.. I seriously don't know which one I would go with. On one hand, the 7.3L Megazilla in a Mustang sounds nuts, on the other hand, I'm really curious how an AWD Hybrid V8 Cobra will perform...

You’re probably referencing StangMode. Lol
Yes indeed haha

As cool as super cars are, and off road ones are cool too, that doesn’t get me excited for the Ford brand much at all. It will be unobtanium for 99% of people. I’d much rather see a S650 refresh and new S650 variants under $80k MSRP

Stangmode, yeah he could be onto something, but his track record isn't great. This event and the Detroit auto show are happening at the same time, I could almost see those being revealed in Detroit, and something like this off-road supercar being revealed at this stand-alone event. I'm gonna be disappointed as hell if it's just a gt 500 with like 900 hp. That's still really cool, but I hate it when brands make a big deal out of cryptic product reveals and all new products and it's just a new trim level. Ford and other brands have done it.

They're acting more cryptic than they did with the GTD and that was a huge deal, they let us know it was a mustang of some sort. If they're acting more mysterious for a lesser trim, I'll be confused as hell.

Just imagine a hybrid predator setup making over 1,000 hp and designed to be the ultimate drag car.

Just a thought, but I've ponder for some time how it would make a lot of sense for Ford to make a halo model using the same platform as the mustang. Something that Ford could charge a premium for, that would encourage them to invest in the mustang platform. Said halo product could generate enough revenue to pay down the development costs for a new platform, making it more financially viable.

That cobra clay model I showed earlier in this thread, just imagine that to take the place of the c7, a front engine, manual, V8 and RWD American roadster designed for maximum driving enjoyment. Ford could develop a lower weight platform that accommodates a V8, and rwd, making it perfect for mustang. Something that has more striking proportions, a longer wheelbase, shorter overhangs, with a longer hood, lower roof, and even more dramatic flared body side. Those sorts of proportions applied to the next mustang would make it a stunner.

Let's say that cobra model is cheaper than the GTD, but it's more than other mustang models, starting in like the low 100s. Ford sells 5-10 thousand of them a year, keep in mind gm sells like 40 thousand c8s a year despite most of them being 80, 90, 100 grand plus.

That would be billions of dollars in revenue that would cover the development costs of this new platform, so by the time the next mustang came along, it could take advantage of this vastly improved platform for a very reasonable cost.

As I Ford fan I really hope they hit a home run,
Where I see it… Ford has been upstaged for over a decade… the S197 GT500s were decimated when the hellcat dropped, not to mention, redeye, demon etc…

and so much hype for the GTD only to get publicly humiliated by the ZR1, let alone ZR1X.

really REALLY hoping ford has something incredible up its sleeve… and NO… 1K is not enough, reports are the ZR1 is making closer to low 1200s…

Honestly I’m not sure they can pull it off…. The ZR1X is incredible bang for buck and will likely be 14-1500hp @ 4k lbs or so.

That clay model got me excited but Ford probably did it as some fun thing. I always thought a Cobra would make sense as a gap between the Mustang and Ford GT but understood why they didn’t try and produce it.

If Ford dropped a bomb on us though like the GT, people would go crazy.

I should have clarified that Cobra meant Cobra Mustang, not 2 seat "Shelby Cobra".

If we're being honest, Corvette has never been a marketing target for the Mustang, so whatever Ford does, I'd be surprised if that changes.

I expect them to do as they have in the past. Create 1 or 2 unique upgraded trims that fill the space between the GT, or DH and GTD. Could be another Boss, which would (historically) be tracked focused, and a Cobra Mustang (think Terminator), rumored to have close to 800 hp.

We've seen test cars running around Detroit for months. Both fastbacks have different configurations, and one in convertible trim.

In years past the Terminator Cobra was not much different than a GT body wise. Maybe Ford is just recreating that era again, with a Boss vs a Mach 1 from back in the early 2000's.

I'll be disappointed if they announce nothing but some off road Mustang variant that almost no one could afford or use as intended.

Something like a new gt would be a "Holy shit" scenario, and it's not entirely implausible. It was at this event last year that Ford revealed they were gonna be returning to the top class of hypercar racing to race for the overall win at Le Mans. It would make a lot of sense to do a hybrid road going GT hypercar to capitalize on that, with hybrid tech from F1 as well now that Ford is racing in both of those series.

The most disappointing scenario would be a new gt 500 style mustang, something like a 100k GTD lite. Not because it would be a bad car, but because it would be the least exciting and surprising option. Still something to look forward to, but I'm hoping it's a new gt, RS 200, or some sort of Corvette rival. A new car that actually warrants being teased as all new.

I agree. A brand new car and some Mustang announcements would be pretty awesome. Imagine a Ford GT/Cobra/RS200 reveal, a new Mustang variant, and they announce like a tremec across the board without a price increase. Lol.

A off road supercar is awesome though, I’ve been enjoying Dakar.

It's so unlikely to happen, but we as enthusiasts would be eating good if that happened, I'd be so happy. Ford has done events like that before, like Detroit 2015 where they revealed the gt, 2nd Gen raptor, and gt 350r all in the span of like 10 mins, it was awesome.

I'd go nuts if they did something like that again.

I doubt it until I see it. Youtubers are not a reliable source, expecially that guy had some wild theories in the past... Not saying it cannot happen but from everything we've seen so far I am far more conservative on what the Cobra might be. I still think it's going to be an underwhelming 5.2L supercharged GT with a GTD inspired bodykit and a hefty price tag... Hopefully I'm wrong.

Sounds like a 5,000 lb car. That's a "no" for me but I know I'm in the minority here.
