First time ever on a track

I’ve been an auto enthusiast my entire adult life and at 58yrs old I finally treated myself to a proper car, a loaded Dark Horse.

This week I took my stock Mustang to Toronto Motorsport Park, a small road course 1 hr from my house for an open track day.

This was my first time on a track and it was amazing. The Trofeos gripped the track consistently and were more capable than the driver. The brakes were awesome and I am learning to push them harder.

Next up is a driving course at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and then the two day Dark Horse Track Attack in October.

This car has met all my expectations and I will have to learn how to use it to its full potential.

I suggest start setting aside money now for consumables; fluids, tires, brakes etc.

I had a 25 year hiatus between my last track day and track attack. Been riding sport bikes the whole time. I did credibly well at track attack. Do the 2 day option. You’ll thank me.

I am same age. We went to the darkhorse track attack in charlotte, nc. That got us hooked. Since then i've been to 2 other roadtracks as well as autocross in parking lots. Only options growing up was a dragstrip. Definately more adrenaline when turning and braking.

Track attack is awesome! Once you get that Hans device on it feels very real. Once the second day comes you are clicking on all cylinders. It just gives you so much confidence to drive your DH. Make sure you tell us how it goes!

When I got hooked on the track, after few sessions I got overconfident and pushed the car very hard. Do yourself a favor and don't make the same mistake. It's very hard on a car to flog it on a road coarse and be mindful of the costs and the risk. Have fun, it's a great car!

Welcome to Road Racing. If this interest/passion continues to grow with you, I'd like to recommend you looking into some road racing clubs/associations. From ground up you will learn more about the car, all its vital components and most especially driver capabilities from the classes and on track instruction. I'm only familiar with the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) and can attest, the education and experience gained is some of the best. I spent 12 years in NASA starting at the HPDE Level and 5 years later moving into Time Trials, where I spent 6 years pushing my track dedicated car to its limits. There are Regional NASA Organizations all over the USA and living in Canada I'm sure there a similar clubs/associations that you can look into.
