How long are you going to leave that amsoil in there?

If a filter is lasting longer, it's just not filtering as well. I'd rather use a regular filter and change it every oil change.
The oil gets changed every 7000 miles and you can do it however you like - Mate ...👍

I hear ya, I like to get comfy and take my time.
First oil change took a long time, but just because i was taking a look at everything while under there and trying not to make a mess...
Here's how to get comfy:

It's always nice to be comfy while wrenching.

Ok so I just got through doing an oil change 700 miles, filtered the oil drain through cheese cloth looking for any contaminants or metal shavings, deposits…? Nothing found. Took about two and a half hours including test drive. The vehicle was on a four post lift 7 feet in the air. 20 minutes to get tools - set shit up, lift car, 35 minutes to take off the BS cardboard shield, which BTW just about every screw was fairly loose (from factory). About an hour to properly drain and wipe down mess from filter drop 😡 and put new Mobil 1 performance extended filter on, fill up with 10 quarts of Amsoil full synthetic extended life oil 5W-30W.

Drop - start, run, shut down, check dipstick. Raise, start, look for leaks, drop, take for 20 minute drive, - back in, check dipstick, raise, check for leaks, drop, check dip stick all good.

The extended Mobil 1 filter will allow me to two two oil changes w/o messing with changing the filter and BS cardboard shield 😡
35 min for the panel? Lol are you like using a nut driver on every one?

Does anyone know part numbers for the fasteners that need to be replaced, so we can pre-buy them to have on-hand before first oil change?

I’ll be the first to admit it, I left the panel on. I put a couple absorbent towels in there to catch oil from the filter. I’m not fighting with all that. I did mine at 5k and according to the oil life monitor it was at 50%.

I’d like to find the engineer that fastened this and stick a 7mm screw up his ass!

Just did my first oil change on my Ecoboost.

WOW, what a pain. I can't believe professional products can be designed this poorly. My 6th gen Camaro was much easier to work on. The location of the Mustang's panel and oil filter and how those limit your jackstand placement, etc. was super annoying.

The 7mm bolts were at least were easy to remove, but the plastic fasteners were the real problem. Mine was missing one of the original plastic fasteners (the 2-piece push-pin style fastener in the front middle) because the panel and underbody didn't line up perfectly from the factory, so I guess they just didn't put that one in. The 7mm bolts didn't line up perfectly with the holes either, some were screwed in slightly off-center, but I saw similar on my Camaro, so I take it this is just Proud American build quality.

One of the single-piece plastic fasteners wouldn't come out. Eventually the head of the fastener broke off, leaving the stem inside.

One improvement to reduce this hassle in the future is just not use the plastic fasteners. They are not necessary, the panel is very secure with just the 7mm bolts.

interesting you had issues putting it online Jack stands. I didn’t have a problem but i do have jacking rails now. But yea the plastic fasteners aren’t needed. I’ve got over 22k miles without them and no issues
