I think the older you are, the more shocked and put off by the '26 top model price vs. what we've seen over our respective histories.Prices of the (top model) GT500/DHSC vs the base GT and the 'special' model, and how much of an increase it is to go to the price of the top model

I remember graduating high school and it was possible for a graduate to land a trade job and afford a Mustang GT/LX that could hit 13's in the quarter mile with mods you could actually afford.
The issue for us is that the cost of the top of the line Mustangs have outpaced the average salaries of those who have been brand loyal and owned several over the years.
The younger buyers are just pretty much fúcked. I mean, I suppose a stripper GT is achievable on the salary of a young person entering the workforce. With some financial gyrations. Good luck with insurance though.
The shock of a 6 digit base price outweighs any impression about improvements; Sure, the late 80's early 90's Mustang was a great bang for the buck car, but in reality it was a tarted up Ford Fairmont with a V8 and if you ever went to an autocross or road course, you found out. It's not until you push the S650's on track that you begin to understand what you're paying for.
Yup, the Fox body Mustang was cheaper, but it's sort of like comparing the F4U Corsair to the F22 Raptor.
It hurts stroking that check or making those payments, but putting the car through its paces really makes it hurt a lot less.
