Quick couple of questions about the DH with Handling Package:

How much if any does the HP reduce ground clearance compared to the standard DH? I‘m thinking about the ability to go straight over a 2.5“ speed bump, very slowly. I have zero problem now with my non-HP Mach 1s.

How much more harshly, again if any, does the DH HP car ride than the non-HP DH? Likewise, I find my non-HP Mach 1s very comfortable.

Since this was posted last year, I was curious about your experience with speed bumps. Have you’ve ever taken your DH w/ HP in a parking garage and/or had to any issues with speed bumps in general?

I really want to drive mine to work, but a bit hesitant since I’m in a parking garage.

TIA

To give you an idea...2022 Mach 1, w/HP, aftermarket wheels and tires, within 3% of factory circumference.

Measuring from the front splitter can be deceiving. The belly pan extends underneath and goes lower still. When I last measured at the belly pan, I was coming in at 4.5 inches, 11.43 cm of clearance at the lowest point.

The length of the splitter is also going to affect an approach angle. Longer extensions require a lower slope. The Mach 1 supplement advises to stay away from grades greater than 7 degrees.

It helps to arrive slowly, at an angle. The tire will meet the rise sooner than if the car was head-on. When I meet my driveway, I kind of fall into it. I slow down and roll, until the car stops on its own. Then I crawl up and into the garage. It sounds more involved than it is, but it's not. It's simply to prevent any forward momentum from compressing the suspension lower and striking anything.

The only way you're going to know is a practice run. Maybe on an off day, off peak hours and give it a shot.

I live in a neighborhood with traffic calming (ie: speedbumps)... Some of them are not insignificant.

I also drive a lowered Mustang Dark Horse, with HP.

When I had my 20" rims and 35 sidewall tires it wasn't an issue however now that I'm down to 19" SVE DHP1 and 30 sidewall tires I do pay attention. If I brake too hard right before the bump, and the springs haven't had time to unload, I will hear the Dreaded Schhhhhhhhhhh Scrape...

However, if I drive normally, brake well before, coast over, I have no problems at all.

A stock ride height DH should be no issues over speed bumps. You have just over 3/4" more clearance than I do. Easy peasy!

Turns out the stock DH w/ HP takes a 2.5” speed bump straight on just fine. No rub or scrape. This with is 400# total of driver and passenger aboard. To my surprise this is true both before and after the underbody strakes were installed up front. Gotta say I was pleasantly surprised!

I will mention three things. I got out and measured the speed bump since it is at the entrance to my gated community. It is *exactly* 2.5”. Next, my HP DHs are 100% bone stock, right down to factory air in the tires. As mentioned underbody strakes are installed. And finally, slow and easy wouldn’t begin to describe how I take these bumps. Centipede speed. But, no drama.

Perfect, I appreciate the extra vote of confidence from those who responded! With only a couple hundred miles on it, I didn't want to take any unnecessary chances and do any damage! :)

No worries; just do what Young did and measure that sucker LOL then drive over VERY slowly and LISTEN with your windows down.....

Once you establish your route, and that your car can make that route, you will be fine.

There is an asian grocery store in the city next to me that has a car show every Friday night... Well more like Cars and Loitering... but that parking lot is Terribru to get into.... I mean like guys are going at 45 degree angles to get their lowered cars in. The people with bags are laughing...

Now that I've seen cars as low, or lower, than mine in there they pointed out the one or two entrances (out of like 5) that you can come in and the approach angle required.

Now it's hunky dory and I can go any time in the Dark Horse.
