All,

We spent a lot of time discussing things like what the car would be named in the other thread. I would like to avoid that here and discuss what you would like to see in a platform sharing car with a D2C base chassis.
Note, this is the chassis the mustang uses D size 2 door Coupe. Obviously it's going to be a 4 door, so maybe D4S?, but let's stick to using the indicator D2C just to indicate a platform sharing vehicle and not one that uses a different platform like the CD6

To break it down, talk about what you would like to see in the following categories:
Make (Ford or Lincoln, or Both)
Shape
Size
Seating Configuration/type of seat Number of Seats and size of person that can fit there. Infant, Child, Young adult, Adult Female, Adult Male, large adult male, etc.
Engine choices
Transmission Choices
Drive Layout
Ride Characteristics: Performance, Luxury, or bit of both
Price Range

If you disagree, kindly post your thoughts on what the car should be. Friendly debate is fine, but please keep it friendly.

Make: Ford, but Lincoln would be fine as well. I would prefer to see a more swoopy or aero type design rather than a blocky sedan. Aka, more Mk VIII LSC than Lincoln LS. NOTE: With the goal being to drive additional sales volume rather than a niche vehicle, I think the Ford brand would be better than Lincoln if they only produced for one brand.

Shape: IF they used the mustang body shape (not saying they should, just that if they did), the only thing I would change is to extend the rear passenger area and change the roofline a bit so that two medium to medium large adults could sit in the back. (5-4 to 5-8. I am not expecting my 6-2 frame to fit in the back height wise. I have seen several renders of the 2 door mustang extended to support 4 doors and a higher rear seating position. This would be fine, or they could change the shape slightly to give it it's own unique identity.

Size: For me, something a little smaller than the charger, would be fine, but the biggest it should be is charger sized. I would prefer something SLIGHTLY smaller. If possible, slightly wider than the current D2C offering would be fine, but only by a few inches.

Seating configuration. 4 seats for adults. Front two seats should be comfortable and supportive, but not soft. Ideally, this is the type of seat that most people can drive all day in comfortably while still maintaining proper support for performance oriented cornering. More akin to BMW than an overstuffed easy chair. The standard Mustang seat would be fine, but I suspect many people would want more motorized adjustments, especially in a Lincoln version. Rear bucket type seats might have a small center console between them with a couple of USB C ports. More 4/8 series GC than 3 series as there really isn't enough room with the current width for a 3 passenger rear seat with the current D2C vehicle.

Engine Choices: The current engine lineup (2.3 EB, 5.0 Coyote, including the current DH variant) ONLY if they could not offer the V8, then the 3.5L EB, but it will be a HP downgrade). With the increase in weight over the current D2C offering, it would be better to have MORE oomph than less.

Transmission choices: Current lineup, 10 speed auto (going to assume this would be the go-to), if they offered a manual (please), the Tremec 6 speed

Drive Layout: I would prefer a rear wheel biased AWD system, but RWD is acceptable. FWD is not.

Ride Characteristics: Performance forward, but also realize that many would use this as a family cruiser too (otherwise they would have just bought the Mustang). It should have good cornering ability and very good sway bars. I would like to see the 6 piston brakes brought over as an option.

Price: Current D2C vehicles go for 30-60k or so before dealer markups. With this being a larger vehicle, I can see it being 35-65 as a Ford, or 50-85 as a Lincoln.

Why does caddy build sedans but Lincoln doesn’t? A ā€˜v-series’ lincoln would be tempting just don't cramp the backseat. When they have to include a roof divot in order for an adult to sit upright the roofline is too tight, if you gotta remove your hat to get in it’s too short.

rwd with front assist (low end traction - getting out of the hole - and some spirited torque vectoring) or selective awd would be interesting. Heck even a mild hybrid with that 50 mile reserve electric only drive option could present something to think over.

if it’s a sedan it’s gotta ride like a cloud but feel like it’s attached to rails, no reason to beat up the driver and passengers just because you wanna go fast.

but then again wouldn’t be d2c (2 door)

edit: why no ā€˜top hat’ racing team? caddy got rid of the ducks and lincoln is stuck with a stovepipe preception?

Fantasy: Would love to see a mustang sedan similar to the E60 BMW M5 from 2008-2010. Mustang sedan with a big V10 engine, RWD and a manual transmission. šŸ˜ This will never happen though (not sure why it even happened with BMW 15 years ago but it was cool that it existed).

Reality: Would be nice if the mustang sedan came out and there was a performance option for at least a V8 engine. Possibly a RWD version might be available... I'm skeptical on that since I think it will either be FWD or AWD. A manual transmission I think is extremely unlikely. 😄

Sadly, I am expecting just a mustang styled sedan with an ecoboost engine, AWD and the 10 speed automatic. I'm sure sales will be okay on that since it appeals to the masses.

Make: Ford
Shape: blocky if a sedan, S650 Mustang if a sportback

Size: midsize
Seating Configuration: 4-seater or 5-seater, needs to comfortably fit two adults at minimum

Engine choices: 2.5L hybrid, one of the V6 EcoBoost engines, Coyote V8

Transmission Choices: 10A or Tremec 6M

Drive Layout: RWD/AWD
Ride Characteristics: Luxury Damping with Performance Handling

Price Range: $35-55K (I would love to see a V8 base trim that utilizes ActiveX seats instead of cloth, something similar to the Camry TRD or Camaro LT1 trims)

I don't know what D2C is, so I'm gonna swap that out for CD6 which is the RWD platform that Ford designed multiple sedans on before scrapping them. These RWD sedans would have replaced things like the Continental in 2020 or so. I'm also gonna include CE1, Ford's affordable EV platform, it seems likely they're gonna develop a sedan for that.

For CD6, a RWD sports sedan with muscular styling and a V8 option. As for CE1, because areo is so important for an EV, I'd love to see a modern take on the gen 1 80s Tarus. That and the escort cosworth whaletail hatchback are two products with would suit a futuristic affordable EV revival really well imo.
