Hi
My bumper has a crack that split that part of bumper.
Can this be repaired? Im taking it to places to see what they say, but just so I have my own info beyond what I'm told (in case I'm told I need a new bumper and I really don't.).
It doesn't need to be 100% perfect, but close and structuraly stable, etc..
TY!

I’d replace the front bumper. Why wouldn’t you want a new one?

How did you get that crack? The black plastic lip looks completely unscathed. Impact from underneath?

If cost isn't exorbitant and the installer does not report it to something like carfax.
I'm thinking it would be at least $1,500 and possibly show as an accident on any carafe etc reports when I go trade in etc.
Not even talking about reporting to insurance.

I'll check them out...
Thanks!
I know it's always possible I'd be told I need to replace. Probably b/c the crack splits that part of the bumper in two. But also IMO (not an expert at all) but seems to me that part of the bumper doesn't take on the highest stresses and it's such a small area that causes the split that a repair will be fine, and will keep the bumper together 'forever' maybe unless hit again in that area. And I'm ok with it being 10% not perfect looking since it's in such an out of the way area. Though I have a feeling a good repair will make it look 99.9% and function stress wise 90%. Just a guess on the stress part.

If you want to try cheap, buy a touch-up paint pen and try hiding the black line. It's a bumper cover, not the real bumper. If it's not to your liking, your only out $24. But it would drive me crazy knowing that it's there.

that's an idea...
I was quoted $850 for what seems as perfect a job as can be (I didnt have a chance to go to pompano yet.. it's 30 mins away). They take the bumper off, repair, paint the area of course.. put reinforcement on it. and clear coat the rest , to blend it all somehow.
Then I went to Ford.. I might have a better outcome $ wise with them. The dealership here, luckily 5 mins from me has been over the top in just service and friendliness etc since day 1. I doubt if it's less $ that it will be as perfect as $850 job, but I'll know when I go back to them Monday.

In all honesty body shop labor to fix that could approach used bumper price. I see one on eBay now in Grabber Blue for $650 + shipping which is $175. It's located in Jacksonville Florida (4 hr. drive?). It does have some scratches which appear to be light and may buff out . I get the money is tight issue. I would wait until money allows and do it right once which will be better in the long run. Used bumper in correct color or used bumper and repaint.

I'm basically saying repair and paint bumper would likely exceed used bumper price which can be had in the correct color either now or by watching for one to come up on eBay.

Good luck and yes that sucks!

Thanks for that. That sounds like something to consider if I dont get a good estimate from Ford or elsewhere better than what I have gotten so far. There's labor putting it on.. a few $100. so ends up about $1150 estimating. I'll see what the other estimates come out at. At least I know from today it doesn't need to be replaced. Which made sense.
Money isn't that tight.. I dont like to spend on something that doesn't make sense.

If they can repair it, they will, and do a fantastic job. I worked for Gary many years ago doing carbon fiber and fiberglass kits on Porsche’s. His work is top notch.

I'll see what Ford quotes me at (if anything). Seems more positive than I thought at first to go that route. If it's not as low as I'm hoping from today's Quick Look I'll see about a trip to pompano. They look like they mainly to high end cars there from the web site which make me guess it will be even more than the quote I had earlier, which just isn't worth It to me even if it's perfect. The crack is in such an area 90% is fine. We'll see.. And again thanks for that place.
