Could somebody please straighten me out on the 486 hp thing?

It’s my understanding that when the Active Valve Exhaust is selected on the GT it jumps the hp rating from 480 up to 486. Is this correct or is it just conversation? Reason for asking is that in looking at window stickers on new GTs with the AVE option the hp still shows to be 480.

And yeah I know you can’t feel it anyway etc. etc. but I‘d like to know.

And kinda along those lines: I keep hearing about how the S650 is heavier than the S550 but does that apply to the GTs or is it just the DH vs. Mach 1?

Thanks for educating an S650 rookie a possible nearby GT buyer.

Don’t forget the torque, supposedly certified increase starting at 4900?

The short answer is it doesn't really matter and you're not just going to gap the car next to you because you have AVE and they don't.
Geez.

I thought I pretty much pointed that out in my question but I guess not.

Emissions configuration no. 1 (gt) or emissions configuration no. 2 (active exhaust) or emissions configuration no. 3 (dh), basically same engine, same intake, same exhaust, different tune. And we thought only the cross the pond folks underestimated.

I read "somewhere" the 486 HP and 414 lb/ft TQ results from the AE exhaust being set to track mode and the car running on 93 O gas. Which makes sense if I'm remembering all that correctly.

Also, "I think" the 5.0 is rated for anything between 87 and 93 O gas; the ECU/PCM will detect fuel quality and dial back performance parameters to match the quality of gas being used.

If I've flubbed any of that; hopefully one of the more knowledgeable forum members will correct it.

it doesn't show that on the sticker. Just HP

That is the ‘base’ everything else is in addition, some part of a package and some selectively optional.

lol, that's the claim but as far as I know no one has verified it. But for what it's worth, AVE is nice to have.

People take factory hp numbers way too seriously. Heigth above mean sea level, temperature, air humidity, air pressure, etc all influence how much horsepower an engine makes, also if you never go for premium gas your Coyote will never make the promised hp. From the factory every single engine can differ in -5% to +5% hp to each other too (I know some 15 GTs who barely made 390hp at the engine). And 6hp in relation to 480hp is in the range of measurement inaccuracy.

So in general, you will pretty much never be able to feel or measure a difference of an exhaust. But overall yes a good designed exhaust can give a slight powerbump and surely Ford wouldn't say it if it wasn't so

480 vs 486 is irrelevant, really. It's 100% marketing.

Understood.

Any idea where Ford actually “said” this or put it in print?

Yeah, that’s a fact. I have others that all have it. I wouldn’t want to be without it. You literally could take away my A/C before my AVE.
