Center console gear select No illumination w automatic Trans?

It's ludicrous to look up at the Main screen from the console to see what gear I'm in at night!
Is it broken or is Ford saving a buck

It's buy design and it's a bit irritating. The only light you get down in that area comes from the USB ports.

I agree, it's a dark hole in that area, there was a person who added a led down there but I haven't looked into that yet.

They removed the shifter light for Gen 2 in 2018. Strictly cost cutting.

I have a 2024 mustang GT premium 401A and I don’t know if the ambient lighting even works.
We was out late last night and I don’t think it works.


Up under the dash, nothing was even lit up. Have to take it to the dealer and see what he says, what a bummer..
My 2020 F150 4x4 Limited ambient lighting lights up everything under the doors, in the doors, the backseat everywhere under the seats.
Update,
The ambient lighting did work.
I had the Color on Orange. .
At the time it wasn’t dark enough to see the Orange .
I reset it to Red & everything is working as Advertised.
My error & getting familiar with the new Mustang.

that might have been me. i went to a junkyard and salvaged 6 MyColor LEDs from some wrecked Mustangs, then modified one, drilled a 1/2 inch hole in the plastic above the wireless charger pad and hot glued it in place. this is the result, combined with the cupholder lighting

here is where i drilled the hole, centered on some little indent. worth noting that the indent itself is not centered on the plastic piece, so if an off-center light will bother you, find the center point and drill there

The shifter doesn't tell you what gear you are in anyway. Surely the driver display in front of you is MORE convenient than having to look down to see if you are in drive?

We had this conversation seven years ago. It was pointless then and it’s pointless now. It didn’t make sense to any of us either. But it is what it is.

I don’t care if theirs a lighted Beverage Holder in the Mustang.
My 2020 F150 4x4 Limited has the lighted Beverage Holder. The 10-Speed Gears Lights Up. So what?
Everyone says it’s because Ford wants to save Money.
They pass everything on to the Buyer.
If I wanted to save money I would have purchased a Honda.
