Watch it be an EcoBoost

EcoBoss

That should be called a "Light Pony". Not that I have anything against the Ecoboost. With a 6 speed, 3.55 or 3.73, and PP. Hmm. On second thought in that configuration, how about an EcoBoomBoss? That would probably blow up real quick. Downshift at high rpm and 💥. One dead pony. 😇

The Dark Horse is fords special performance car for 2024. They even said early on they did not want to re hash their old cars names when naming their new top performance car. So that's why they came out with the new name Dark Horse.
Personally, I think Ford fell short with the Dark Horse. I equate performance with horsepower and handling. While the Dark Horse may handle better than the GT, a 14 horsepower increase over the GT with AVE is pretty dismal. I wonder how many Z06's or Hellcats they'd sell with a 14-horsepower increase over their "special performance cars." It would peak my interest if they came out with a Boss version of the Mustang in the 550-650 horsepower range.

I doubt the would. If they did it would be available to the rich only. Mustangs should be the workingman's car. As much as people hate Ecoboost, they are the wave of the future. Unless people want the Electric Mustang. Seen many of those left in the dust by Teslas. Gas prices may never go down. I hope they do. Least I ever paid was .65 a gallon. Electric cars are not going to cut it.

Well comparing a Z06 or Hellcat to a Dark Horse is silly because of the cost and HP out put. I agree with you the Dark Horse is under achieving when it comes to power. But all of ford named mustangs like the Bullitt and boss 302 where never much more powerful than the GT versions. Now Ford did tickle us with the concept P800 cars that were supercharged but as of today it's still a concept. So I picked up manual Dark Horse on 12 of January 2024 I had already pre ordered the Whipple. Had it installed in June. So now I have a true 650 to the wheels Dark Horse with the Tremec and it is crazy fun to drive.

kinda why I doubt the Boss is coming back this generation. Kinda redundant.
But ok another note, the dark horse name didn’t exactly catch fire. It just doesn’t resonate like heritage names such as Boss, Mach, Cobra, Shelby GTXXX, etc. so who knows how many generations it lasts.

I can be a little literal so it’s hard for me to tell if you’re being serious about this or not. On the off chance that you are being serious let me be the first to tell you it ain’t gonna happen with a NA, non-hybrid Coyote. 500 hp is pretty much the end of the line for this configuration if not the actual end. Ford isn’t looking to tarnish the platform’s remaining viability with another ka-boom risk.

Now, add FI and/or hybrid technology into the mix and ooch up the dollars by 30-40 grand and you have a horse of a different color. Oh yeah, and don’t forget to add a few hundred pounds too.
disagreed on all fronts.

firstly, my point was I don’t think the boss is returning this generation due to redundancy with tje dark horse. The only reason it could is if it seriously outperformed it at the same or cheaper price point. I don’t see that happening as ford is happily price gouging and can relegate big performance to a twin turbo car like a cobra, etc. if there were to be a Boss that mattered, it would return next generation on a better sports car platform.

And no, the price doesn’t have to astronomically increase. As it is, the dollar to value relationship with tje current old platform is inverse.

That's why I'm debating with my brother and daughter between getting my sister in law a GT with as many performance bells and whistles, the GT Premium with all the performance up grades at $64,460, or for not much more the Dark Horse at $68,168 sans the handling package. Seems the GT Premium would be a better choice. The Dark Horse weighs more, and forget about parking it in a place you can't keep your eye on it. Plus with summer tires only, can't use it for commuting. The reason to get the Mustang is to be able to get away from the bad guys. Plus a car with a lot of flash draws attention from the bad guys too. So the Dark Horse becomes a "Garage Queen". Do we buy to ride or garage. Mustang drivers buy them to ride.

Also I highly doubt, they will fight with the EPA again to make horse power without adding a SC. Which instantly adds 10000.00, then another mustang you can't tune. Unless it's going towards some type of hybrid. Count me out, like it has been said a majority of us are old school. We are getting phased out lol. A new generation of enthusiasts will be had? I will enjoy mine, and they will have to pry it out of my cold dead fingers.

My point was that if the Hellcat and Z06 only made 14 more horsepower than the ScatPack or Stingray, they probably wouldn't sell very many. I can put headers on my GT and be making as much horsepower as a Dark Horse. Personally, I'd pay $70k or a little more for a Mustang making 100+ or more horsepower. I think the Whipple charger is the way to go on the Dark Horse, but it would be nice if Ford offered a supercharged Dark Horse from the factory. I'm guessing you've got an additional $11k-$13k into your car with the purchase and installation of the Whipple. 650 rwhp is a great number. :like:

Yep. Along with my Whipple SC. If the can catch me. I got mine barely over 50K. Ugly black rims and all.

The dark horse only has 14hp more than the GT

but remember the Mach 1 only had 20 more HP than the GT

and the boss 302 only had 24 more HP than the GT

Right, at least you can afford to add horsepower to the Mach 1 and the Boss. The aftermarket industry for those will benefit. If I had 10000.00 burning a hole in my pocket I would put a SC on my 24. Not happening it's fast enough and sounds better that any vehicle will in the future. Also I can spin my tires!

There's really not a huge difference for $3,700. I'd lean towards the GT.
