my 2007 GT 500 had a 1300 gas guzzler tax. Start stop is not the reason for it.
It was for the my GT. Job 2 cars with AS/S and the manual transmission did not have gas guzzler tax added on as I understand it. Regardless, I think we can agree it's a crap tax and just a money grab by the US Treasury.

I drive almost exclusively in Sport mode which disables AS/S, so I never really notice it.

So let's be really clear here. Not enforcing stop start in the US will make NO difference to the Mustang you buy. It is part of the car as it is required globally and so all that will happen is it will be disabled and the switch removed. There will be no other differences and Ford are well aware that in a year or two it will be back on the cars depending on the politics at the time.

Short term politics are a complete annoyance to car makers as they have product planning years in advance and if they change things all the time it just costs money.

Taking backward steps on other factors just means the US loses the race in the future so car makers will not do that. Ford must compete with Chinese car makers NOW or in 15 years time Ford will be gone like many have before.

It happened in the 1970's with Japanese car makers, the 1990's with Korean car makers and is happening now with Chinese car makers. Just look how many cars in the US are Japanese or Korean Companies now when there were virtually none in the 1960's. Same in the UK.

ASS isn’t the cause of the guzzler tax. They simply allowed those with ASS to avoid paying the guzzler tax as a reward for having ASS on their car.

Huh? 🤔

Federal government mandates are what drive innovation, technology, and competitiveness with Chinese car makers? 🤭

😜

Well, the AS/S feature had proven to be a gas saver over the entire population for many years. Facts are facts, guys, and let's not confuse what is going on here with reality! Just like doing away with the Fed Govt authority to legislate climate change laws, this has nothing to do with the real world, only with how this administration wants to look to its base. Now, I can wait for the slings and arrows to start flying my way! ;-)

Forcing manufacturers to produce cars with 3 cylinder engines that weigh 1200 pounds would save a lot of gasoline. It would be a "proven . . . gas saver over the entire population."

The always stay started button is also known as ignition. They assume too much when stopping my started vehicle.

Can I have my $1000 gas guzzler tax back, then? Had to pay that since my job 1 '24 didn't come with AS/S. Still salty about it on a car that gets a a rated 24 mpg on the highway, but I am glad I don't have that stupid feature on my car.
Manual or automatic? I didn't have the guzzler tax on mine.

Pretty sure US Federal mandates make no difference to all the cars sold outside the US.

Car makers are global companies with global products meeting global demand.
