So driving around in the winter I've noticed that my HVAC blower motor has quite the whistle under certain conditions. It is coming from the passenger side, and sounds almost like a kettle screaming it is quite noticeable.

Only happens when the heat is set high enough that the blend door is mostly putting heat through. If I turn the temp down enough where it starts introducing cool air to goes away. Also noticed when I use the dual zone climate control it only changes when I set the passenger side to cool. Driver's side offers no change in noise regardless of setting.

I'm wondering if there is something installed incorrectly or something blocking the passenger side blend door partially? Someone please tell me this isn't normal for these cars.

Check if a vent is partially open. It can whistle is you don’t close it completely.

I'll let you know soon... my two days of winter should be coming up any day now.

Good luck tracking it down!

I remember this happening to my 2013, and it had to do with the in cabin air filter. Took it to the dealership and the fixed it. Let us know what happens.

Yeah it doesn't seem to change even if you switch between defrost, vents, or floor. Moving the facing vents around does nothing too.

It's most noticeable at speeds 4, 5 and 6, and doesn't happen if it's REALLY COLD. I'm gonna see if I can take a look at the cabin air filter after work today and see if maybe they left a piece of plastic or something in there. They left like half of the plastic cling wrap in certain spots all over the car from PDI including the engine, so they definitely didn't do a very thorough job.

Mine doesn't, but I've never had the fan higher than 4. Maybe I should check it? 🙄

Unfortunately no luck. Popped the cab air filter out and it only got slightly louder. I let the car sit and idle long enough to heat soak the engine bay and interior so the heat got REALLY nice and hot and it did quiet down some but not completely. I'm thinking it's probably just wonky harmonics in the passenger hot/cold blend door if it is able to change tune slightly with temperature changes inside the cab.

Got a service appointment tomorrow so I'm going to mention it so it's on record in case the blower motor decides to call it quits or something, but I fully expect them to not to be able to do anything about it.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was actually just a design flaw and is more common than it seems and just gets overlooked by the engineering team and the average consumer. So far from what I've heard from you guys it seems like the average Mustang owner doesn't even know that the car comes equipped with a heater. 😅
