Does anyone know if its possible to purchase a used remote start keyfob and then program it to your base 100A/300A or 101A/301A Mustang?

I have FORSCAN so I can enable the remote start feature, but I've read on the 6g forum there might be an issue with frequency if your car didn't come with remote start on the fob itself?

I would prefer if possible to use the fob instead of the app, and was curious if anyone has done this? Plan was to purchase a used 5 button fob and then try to program it to my car.

Following. I too would also be interested to see if there's a way to get remote start working on a 401A with a 6MT via Forscan and coding a Key fob off of an automatic that has the remote start button.

Yes, this is doable. I purchased a new 5-button keyfob (https://a.co/d/jeQme2m for the US, just make sure you're ordering one in the correct frequency for your region) and programmed it myself, then swapped out the backplate with the mustang logo from one of my original keys and transferred over one of my original slide out key. Took a couple attempts to get the programming to stick, but it did finally go through. Programming slot is in the center console underneath the mat.

FWIW I was starting with a non-premium Ecoboost 101A with Active Exhaust. Remote rev already worked from the keyfob from factory, but remote start I could only do from the FordPass app. Now both remote start and remote rev work from the fob.

Thanks! I also have a non-premium Ecoboost 101A w/ active exhaust so hopefully that works as well. I did end up purchasing a used 5 button Mustang key online. I'll have to check and see if the FCC ID lines up when it arrives. If it doesnt, I appreciate the link and will check those out. Fingers crossed it works with a 2020 key as well!

Well the used fob I ordered finally arrived and unfortunately it didn't work. Looks like the 5 button fob from the 2020 mustang isn't compatible. The FCC ID didnt match which I think is the issue (freq. mismatch)

So no luck with that option. Does anyone know if its possible to see how many keys are programmed to your vehicle? I didn't get any messages on the screen but would like to verify for sure that the key didnt sync w/ the car.

@fablighting did you have any issues programming your fob purchased from amazon?

I tried following the owners manual instructions and then tried to use several youtube videos as a guide and still no luck.

Both the used key I purchased and the one from the Amazon link above dont work for some reason. I have the same 101A EB 'vert w/ active exhaust so it should be the correct freq.

Any tips on how you got yours programmed?

Took a solid 5-6 tries to get mine to work. I used this programming method from another thread here on the forums about programming an EU key:

"The programming is the usual one (and yes, you need your two original keys): open the car, close all the doors, place your first original key on the key slot, press the start button (don't start the car, just in accessory mode), wait for 5 seconds (in my case the center display didn't shown anything unusual), shut the accessory mode off, place the second original key on the slot, repeat the process, then place your new key on the slot, turn the accessory mode on, in this case it took like a second to wake up, the turning signals started to blink for a second, then the center display turned on to show: "Key successfully programmed", shut the accessory mode off."

Just altered timing a bit (a little longer than 5 seconds between hitting the start button, then a little shorter) and one of them finally stuck. Also tried changing the orientation of the key in the slot in the console (buttons up vs. buttons down). Don't remember which combination finally ended up working for me, but got the flashing hazard lights and a successful programming eventually.

Thanks, I'm not sure whats going on but I tried both more than and less than 5 seconds and buttons up and down and still can't get the car to program the 3rd fob for some reason.

Does anyone know if you can use the PATS programming on FORSCAN to program a spare key? I looked on FORSCAN but didnt see that as an avail. option under the service procedures.

Well I've hit another dead end. I tried to get the dealership I purchased the car from to program the linked fob in the thread, and they woudn't do it, said they would only program a fob from Ford.

This is turning out to be a more frustrating project than I thought it would be LOL.

Does anyone have another idea for adding remote start to a 101A or 301A car? The Ford app isn't an option because I don't leave the connected services on.

Also, just for anyone trying this in the future, I reached out to an independent local locksmith to try and program the remote. He verified its the correct mhz (434) for my car, but he said he's had little luck w/ the amazon fobs. I guess they are very hit or miss. Just my luck I got one that didn't work.

So looks like there's not many options left. How about the part below, anyone have any expierence with this?

Genuine Ford Vehicle Security System Remote Start Kit Ford Perimeter Plus For SYNC4
Part Number: ML3Z-19A361-A

I noticed it says Dealer programming required, is that accurate? Dealing with my local dealer is like pulling teeth, if I can avoid it that would be preferable

This was on mine. Possibly different frequency and also the car need the above module (mine had already the remote start via Ford app):
Just to make sure I understood correctly, did you have to install the perimeter plus security module on your car prior to getting the remote start to work?

I have a convertible which is supposed to have the security system installed, but I think this module adds to the existing system even on the security pkg cars, but I could be mistaken.

My big concern is getting it programmed to enable remote start after the install. Dealers around here seem to be a pain to deal with when it comes to stuff like this.

I don't know where he is from.
You have a European Mustang. It's having all the bells and whistles and almost the same option as the top trim USA Mustang. So if there are any module, harnesses or anything involved here, he might miss some important hardware.

Nope, having an EU one, I basically have all the features already.. that's why I said, you may miss the remote starting module.

Do you have the push-button start and an automatic?
