The AE was louder and throatier compared to the standard model. If they were both running together, the standard exhaust kind of sounded like a V6 with a kit on it compared to the AE. Now if it was not next to an AE, it sounded like a V8, but definitely not V8 sounding next to the AE.
Yep. The active exhaust is night and day better than the base exhaust. The AE sounds as good as a Mustang can before it becomes obnoxious to most people. There are cars that sound better, but not many.

Here's how it goes:

1. Spend $1,595 to add Active Exhaust to your car when you buy/order it

Not loud enough. Buy $300 H/X pipe because a $2,500-3,500 AE compatible catback is too much $$$

Then either:

A) still not loud enough, spend $2,000 on active exhaust axle back

or

B) H/X pipe made it too loud, spend $300 on a Borla/Jones resonator or put the stock one back on

IMO get the non-active exhaust car, and put a quality axle back on it (not a Corsa Extreme or Borla ATAK). It'll sound good. If you want more, add an H/X to this. Save the $$$$
Just curious what quality axlebacks you might recommend? Ie roush, AWE?

Hate to take this too far off topic, but in the spirit of discussion, has anyone compared active exhaust on EcoBoost vs non-active on EcoBoost?

AE certainly looks better, but every time I have heard the AE on EB it sounds horrible, not saying my non-AE EB sounds amazing or anything, but non-active EB (in my opinion) sounds way better.

I have not been able to compare sounds in different modes, only what I've heard on the street, assuming that is normal mode. Maybe sport mode or track mode sounds better on the AE EB.

Curious if anyone has noticed this or had the chance to compare.

I love having the option to change the exhaust. You might think you want it loud all the time, but trust me some times quiet mode is a god send. Think long day in the sun at a car show or at the track and you just want some ice cold air conditioning and a quiet ride home while you numb out after being over stimulated for hours. Thats what I love.

I have always loved the cars that have multiple personalities. Kill mode for when I want to turn up the music and drive like a menace. And then squishy mode for when Im tired/headache or just want to chill and listen to music or talk radio. I like having the option. The bigger the delta between modes, the better.
