For whatever reason, Ford is sometimes reluctant to release data until they absolutely have to. I enjoyed forcing their hand with the GTD by digging it up via the EPA application when they didn't want the vehicle weight to be released for as long as possible. Seems they chose to do it again with the 2026 Dark Horse SC by holding the Certificate of Conformity back such that the weight wouldn't be revealed until the last minute. Federal law requires that a conformity certificate be obtained and available prior to the first delivery to the public. Buried in that law however, are ways that automakers can request that data be withheld from the public domain for specific reasons but only until and no later than that first delivery.

So for the past few months I would look at the EPA (CARB as well) site for the application/certification and it wouldn't populate. The 5.2 engine group for the GTD and the Raptor R were there but no DH SC. That got boring so I filed a FOIA request with the EPA for the certificate as well as any and all related data.

The request forced them to cough up that which they weren't ready to share as federal law makes it clear they have to address the request in a "timely" manner. I wanted them to have to share the cert with me and watch it show up on the EPA site but my request will now likely take quite a while. Friends and politicians like to dole out difficulty at times but no biggie - I'm happy they finally had to post it up.

Anyway, the certificate...

There are two weight listings buried in the EPA cert.

DH SC base - 4,249 pounds
DH SC CF - 4,090 pounds

To be clear, the EPA listing is for curb weight. The US government defines curb weight as such...

The 16.1 gallon tank equates to about 100lbs if you want to do the math and dry weight is what you are looking for. To be clear about something else as some will look up the certificate and see 4WD in some of the test data, that means it just happened to be tested on a 4WD dyno. You'll see that in the following snippet where is says "drive mode while testing" in the bottom right hand column. Also not that the horsepower listed is incorrect. That number often changes from the initial application and any subsequent revisions made down the road.

Weights are very close to that of the recent GT500 base and CFTP cars.

What’s the weight on the drop top?

Yeah, right about what I expected also, at 4k plus I’m sure it will feel incredibly planted and handle like it’s glued to the pavement, I had to look up ZR1X after reading this, says 3914, getting a AWD car that light is so impressive

While the SC convertible shares the same engine test group number with the EPA, you won't see Ford doing a separate cert for it beyond fuel economy. You may see the weight pop up at the NHTSA site via crash testing data but short of that you're gonna have to wait for Ford to list it.

interesting that the description report has the final drive listed as 3.73, but the summary information report says 3.55. it also really goes to show how heavy modern vehicles are when cf wheels, carbon ceramic rotors, sport seats, and a rear seat delete saves 159 lbs. but it only weighs 24 lbs more than the base GT500 did, and the track pack SC weighs roughly 10 lbs less than the GT500 CFTP did

There will be at least 1 revision filed and likely already was, months ago.

I believe the CFTP Gt500 published curb weight was actually less than 4090. Only a few pounds but still. OEM CCM disks should drop another 60 odd lbs. Kind of excited for the ford spec OEM Cup 2 R's. to try out. Maybe we will get lucky and there are some other OEM "light weight" parts we can sub out that the aftermarket hasn't covered...

For context, the certified GT500 curb weights from Ford to the EPA were:

CFTP 4,142 lbs
Base 4,204 lbs

From the 2022 Ford filing with the EPA...

2022 GT500 weight.webp

Fair to say the DH carbon SC is ~50 lbs less than the CFTP GT500 and the base GT500 is ~50lbs less than the base DH SC.

Ah thanks, I could have sworn it was 4086 based on Ford's own spec sheet. But if you are going to do the comparison, sticking to the same source to ensure correct relative data differences is the way to do it.

Either way ... I have no doubt it will be fast ...really fast but when I was deciding I just thought the GT500 drove heavy compared to the 350 at the time ...

You'll see 500 guys complaining about going through tires very fast at the track and hopefully you'll see a bigger fuel tank because many 500 owners were mentioning the 500 was an extremely thirsty girl on the track

All the 2026 Mustangs have the same fuel capacity, from the 2.3L to the 5.2L, 16 gals.
