At my first oil change my report came back saying my air filters needed attention at next Oil change. Going forward I plan to change the oil with full synthetic Motorcraft at every 5,000 miles. Are the factory OEM air filters reusable and cleanable? Or do they have to be replaced? And how often should they be replaced? I know what the manual says but we all know we take care of our cars better than that what the manual recommends

I think I just replied to you on Reddit. No the factory filters are not cleanable. Check out mastermind’s filter I linked. It seems cool and has been working well for me so far.

Don't just rely on a report or technician telling you your air filter(s) need replacing. Check out the filter yourself, looking for gray or brown colored filter element and dirt particles in between the creases. Most air filters can be blown out, removing dirt particles and continued to be used. If filter element is dirty looking (gray or brownish looking) replace. I've replaced my own air filters for a long time and know what to look for to determine blow out or replace. It's also cheaper to purchase your own (OEM or equivalent) and replace.

@Adamrx11 ...... my opinion always use full synthetic. Ford Motorcraft oil is very good and so is their oil filter. Depending on where and how often you drive, you could start by checking your air filters monthly. That way you will know when they get dirt and bugs in them and to what extent. Remember these new air boxes in our 2024s have snorkels right to the front grille to bring in cooler air and are also lower to the ground so they get dirtier, faster. I don't use compressed air to blow them clean as I fear blowing dirt etc into the filter media and therefore imbedding dirt into the filter paper. I use a shop vac with good suction and first use a crevice tool to go (gently) into the folds and then a soft brush to do the rest of the filter media. When it the filter media looks discolored after a vacuuming it a number of times, it's time to change them. They are CHEAP considering what they do. In my opinion Ford oem filters are fine. I have gone the K&N and various other "performance" filter routes and never felt it was worth the time and money. These new (2024) front grille snorkel air intakes are waaay better that any of the old style under hood air boxes could ever be - no matter how fancy and colorful they look. We are lucky we purchased 2024s - they are a vast improvement.
