If I unintentionally pull shifter a little towards me, it hits a hard spot that prevents going into second. Is this a known issue ?

Because you can't shift without using the clutch. If you force it to go in second without the clutch you are destroying your car.

You can but the timing has to be oh so right.

Is op sitting at an angle? Might be hitting the edge of the gate (pulling toward the seat instead of directly rearward)?

Nothing was said about not using the clutch. I did however decide that it’s the reverse gate that I hit. I think I’ve been pulling the shifter slightly towards me due to 5speed tremec tkx in another car that’s reverse is to the right side of pattern instead of left side.

You said you pulled the shifter unintentionally. Who presses the clutch when pulling the shifter unintentionally?

I see. Yeah, he didn't even know where the reverse was..
It's not a matter of not knowing where reverse, or any other gear is. I won't presume to know what your background is; but based on your comment, and since you own an automatic, it sounds like you don't have a lot of experience driving one of these things with a manual transmission. Especially when things start getting spirited.

To the OP's credit, he's already figured out what is happening and found that it is not uncommon to have a tendency to pull the shifter slightly towards oneself on the one two shift. An aggressive 1st to 2nd shift, if not pulling straight back can cause the shifter to snag, significantly, on the reverse gate if the lockout mechanism is not properly adjusted. Unfortunately, I don't believe that is an adjustment that is even possible without an aftermarket short throw shifter such as the MCW or Barton.

I'm from the part of the world where everybody drives manual since birth lol.

Yeah, great. But you'll notice that I also said 'one of these things with a manual transmission', implying that I specifically meant newer Mustangs (s550 or s650) with the MT82 or Tremec; so unless you've been driving newer Mustangs with a manual since birth, I'm not quite sure what effect you thought this statement might have on my perception regarding the amount of time I think you've actually spent in one of them. 🤷‍♂️

Your reading comprehension is sorely lacking. I never said ANYTHING about not using the clutch. I also said that I apparently was pulling the shifter TOWARDS me. And where do you get off saying I didn’t know where reverse was ?!?!

Btw, I will admit to not having the experience of growing up using the exact same tranny that’s in my Shelby like you had all your life. I only had semi’s, 2 ton trucks, 60s and 70s muscle cars, motorcycles and pick ups over the past 60+ years.

The person you are talking with. I have in the past pointed out he is rude, if you don't agree with him. I just look at him as someone who likes arguing and ignore him.
