Oil monitor system is based on 3 factors: Miles driven, Time and How the car car is driven.

I think it also keeps track of engine temperatures and crankshaft revolutions. Presumably, 40 miles driven on a racetrack is going to be calculated differently than 40 miles driven with the cruise control on at 2500 rpm.

Oil monitoring system probably has a half a data center full of information it uses to calculate oil life!

My car is about 2000 miles since the last change and it is at 45% and dropping every day due to Fords calculations that are not only factoring mileage, type of use, etc but it will never let you go more than 12 months without prompting you for an oil change.

I had it done last August, one year to the date since the previous oil change at 1000 miles, and the car had only gone a little over 3000 miles. The oil life monitor went progressively to zero while it was sitting in the garage for 4 months.

I did reset the monitor to 100% so it would trigger for an October oil change as I am not at that house in August, but assuming I use the car for a couple of days in July when I am in FL, it is still going to force me into an oil change at 2500 miles unless I reset the oil life monitor.

Dude it was a 2019 , the oil is over 5 years old. Original oil in crankcase.Definitely is a good idea to change it would bet it would be bad by then.

i still already recommended he change it while in warranty to stay in compliance

Here is a direct quote, "A friend of mine just looked at a 2019 BULLITT with 5200 miles on it. The owner was proud to say that it had no mods and still had the original oil in the crankcase! My friend is still looking for a car....". So if this the case yes definitely bad oil i would say. LOL

I must be having a stroke. Really? Are we back on this topoic so soon. How many times has this been discussed , even in the last year? This should be a mandatory question to be allowed to join this forum. There are three answers to this question. 1. You have a decent powertrain warranty and Ford is as good as anyone honoring it. Fail to do the specified maintenance and .....well I guess if we wait long enough stupid will show up. 2. Changing your oil and filter (using FULL synthetic oil and a decent filter - Ford has both) is the cheapest and best insurance you will get for a engine so sophisticated that it shames former race engines. So, what - are you on welfare and were given a free Mustang and can't afford the oil? 3. Dino oils (mineral) could be kept on a shelf for long period of time. Modern synthetics can NOT. Even very good ones with good to great base oils and good to great VI improvers will have component seperation over time - I would say that easily starts within a year. If you have driven and then let it sit (worst form of stupid), because - as has been said above - all manner of contaminants will actually harm it. So for $hit sake have a couple less cheese burgers and change your friggin' oil faster and let's not discuss this again for at least a year. BTW - my new 2026 GT Premium convertible has 1000 miles on it. Within a few days I will have Ford FULL synthetic and oil filter done and yes my tech will pre-fill the oil filter - twice, once to let the oil soak into the filter media and then to fill, as much as possible, the central barrel.

Turns acidic? TBN numbers on year old oil prove this isn't a problem.

The truly insane change it every 6 months, or put fresh oil in the car to let it sit all winter, then change it again when they bring it out in the spring...

@robvas ..... that would make me insane but I blame the genetics. A grandfather whose company did repairs on super heavy equipment. Who personally knew Penske when he took over Caterpillar and brought to heel all the rogue caterpillar dealers who were screwing with the turbos and blowing the engines and then truned it around and revived caterpillar. My grandfather was a consultant on that. In the spare time my grandfather's men built race engines, eventually adding a dedicated shop for marine and automotive race engines. I learned real early you (almost) cannot change lubricants too often. 1. Modern synthetic oils will seperate if left on a shelf. Do they re-constitute in your oil pan? who knows - do you really want to find out? 2. Change it every 6 months? Are you friggin kidding? As you already know (if you have read this thread in the past) I run full synthetic all summer, change the oil in November (full synthetic), store the car and run it every 3+/- weeks while in storage, bring it out in April, change the oil (full synthetic) again. If I have to explain the reasons for this you are beyond help. If I was running it harder I would change it more often. When younger I lived on the waterfront and had HP engines in my boat. If we ran it hard on Saturday I changed the oil on Sunday. You say changing oil every six months is insane - you're too funny.
