I had a 2020 gt premium with the pp and 10 spd auto. It was a great car in many aspects with state of art at the time, EXCEPT for the woefully under developed 10 spd auto, just like you experienced in your 2021 Mach 1.
After 3 yrs and 5 months, 13000 miles, multiple trips to different dealers to get resolution, I said F %%% this, and took it down to a different dealer out of town and traded it in on a 2024 gt premium S650 with a 10 spd auto,
Like you, I seriously thought of going to the 6 spd manual and would have gone to the Dark Horse to get the Tremec if I went that route.
The S650 10 spd auto has been completely improved and all that miserable behavior present in the S550 is gone. Smooth as can be, no heaving and bucking, awesome quick rev matching upshifting and down shifting and when you drive it in auto just driving around, it drives like a Caddy.
Best decision I ever made to upgrade to the 2024 S650. If however, it starts acting up, then I'm done with the 10 spd auto. That said, with 1200 miles, everything works perfectly on the vehicle, including the tranny.

And don’t kill the messenger, I’m just reporting.
So you...
well, maybe the "tech" should view Tony Unica's post before he makes stupid statements
I call your tech's reply 24 carat dumba$$
I really don't give a $hit if a Mustang owner, despite all of the information offered on a multitude of websites and forums, wants to drive around with open holes in their wheel wells directly behind their front tires, LOL - those guys probably even have front wheel mud guards. Ha Ha ....... as they say "you can't fix stupid."
Why so hostile?

@RLE55 ..... I don't mind mud/stone guards if they blend with the body styling. My comment was that some guys might have the guards on but leave the holes in the fender liners open....a bit sarcastic.

@onaccountof ..... did not mean to be hostile - my apologies, but it cheeses me off when someone makes a really, really uninformed comment (like the tech you quoted did) and he hadn't read about a thousand lines of authoritative of posts on the topic thread. Geez, you can "google" the topic and it pops right up. has the guy been living in a cave? I live in a small city and and have my service done at a small Ford dealership and all of the guys there had heard of the fender liner holes and the damage they can do - plus - that guy was from a dealership that left the frame shipping blocks on your car ....so his advice would be worth??????

@TonyP66...... there are hundreds of posts and thread lines on this topic. General consensus: the two holes are an error. They are not needed to install/remove any part, they have zero to do with any type of ground effect or air flow. Ford corporate has, so far, been unwilling to comment.
Before you post inaccurate statements like this and try to pass it off as fact for the casual reader, I strongly urge you to do a better job at performing due diligence.

At minimum, do a better job of searching these forums.

Ten months ago, I communicated with both the Ford aerodynamics engineer in charge of the S650 as well as his boss. I posted (on this very forum) the responses relative to what the purpose of the openings were, as well as thier comments on covering the holes.

Thanks for the reminder roadpilot.

While I think the reason the holes are there is basically irrelevant it contravenes common sense to think Ford would leave them there if they were a potential problem. Sure they want to save a buck but to ignore a problem with a $2.00 fix only to have to deal with major corrosion issues down the road would be silly.

@roadpilot .....your engineer is entitled to his opinion. From what I have seen with my own Mustang, read and discussed with others, I disagree with him. I have seen manufacturers offer, too many times, what I consider invalid explanations to try to defend a defect. IMO There is no ground or air effect possible from these two openings as they dead-end in body, pinch weld, and frame components. The only "effect" I can see is to allow the front tires to fling (often at high speed) piles of stones, dirt and in one case I personally witnessed - dirt that when wet formed blocks of mud that blocked the holes - so much for that guy's "ground effects". Removing the bottom pans, the length of the vehicle, as Tony Unica and I did (as well as dozens of other posters) allowed all of us to shop-vac a load of debris from our under carriages. Areas of my underbody and frame members had been chipped by stones and caked with wet dirt. These I restored before adding the repair kits. I could list all of the people I talked with who were certainly intellectual and professional equals of those who you cited, but to what end? It would just become a meaningless "he said - he said". I posted this concern, as did many others, to be of assistance and alert our fellow Mustang owners to what we deemed to be a serious threat to their vehicles. The best aspect of a democracy is that its people have the right to free speech and this has been exercised on this thread, thanks to this great forum. Owners now have access to both sides of a discussion and have plenty of information to decide whether to leave the holes open or close them and that is the true strength of this forum.

First wash since I got it .
She’s all Cleaned up, in and outside.
all the spray on the interior after tints and fingerprints on the outside after the ppf.
Even cleaned up the engine bay.
Man she looks good!
Interesting to see all the new lines in the s650 while washing.
Need to go to a prettier spot for better pics but kinda ugly in Chicago in March.

Congratulations to your new Darkhorse and I enjoyed reading our comparisons from 10 years experience. I am sure you made the golden decision to get a DH :)

To the topic around the fenders: I mean, let us assume Ford intentionally left the hole for any air flow.... I don't think that a manufacturer would leave it as it is for the cost of stones, gravel and mud accumulating in the body or pinch weld, causing perhaps damage to some parts of the car, because that quite frankly would cause an opposite effect, let alone would piss off so many drivers. I personally think it is just a production error. I can't remember whether the S550 had these holes.

Well, everything happens for a reason right! There was a sales guy in there that asked me if I was buying the DH that day, he said he was actually was going to buy it and hoped I didn’t; I said sorry dude, it’s mine! lol
Let me know when you go, I’ll tell them to take care of you!
let’s meet up summer, shoot the shit!

I don’t mean to be argumentative but if it were ā€œjust a production errorā€ as you say, wouldn’t it stand to reason that Ford would have noticed it by now? And subsequently corrected it if it had the potential to do significant harm? It just doesn’t seem logical to me to think otherwise.
