1) Look into getting a Billetworkz shift knob. 2) as other said, set your preferred settings to a custom profile, then it's just 2 clicks on the steering wheel.

I have a theory that using the Motorcraft oil has the additives that might prevent the valve ticking many complain about. Just a theory….

It looks like the fix will be hidden underneath the plastic cowl piece.
