Installed Steeda air filters in place of the stock ones and left the intake cover lids off. Drove the car for about 25 miles and now got a check engine light. Curious if others have experienced this?

Nope. Scan the code. Possible it’s over oiled and your MAF sensor got hit with oil, or the filters aren’t 100% seated against the intake hose and air is seeping out. Or, it’s neither of those and the CEL is just a coincidence and it’s something else.

I don't suggest you leave the top covers off. I know you can for sound, but you'll probably get some heat soak at some point. Personally, I've never liked oiled filters. Just because I don't like them doesn't mean that it's not the right move for you. I have filterwares on my stock filters and some people don't like them.

Like others have said, could be a coincidence. Could be over oiled, etc. If you don't have a code reader put stock filters back on. Put the air box lids back on and then do three full drive cycles. The code will likely clear, unless the MAF is caked with oil or there's another issue. If it turns out to be the MAFs, make sure you use MAF cleaner and nothing else to clean them. They should also be completely dry before you reinstall them. Don't drive the car hard until you figure out the issue as you don't want to have a rich or lean condition. Common sense will prevail.

Yes — that’s not typical for a Steeda filter installation. Something is definitely off.

As mentioned above, those are possible reasons why.

Best,

Only time I've seen a Steeda filter oil up an MAF sensor is from a user over oiling it after cleaning. As insurance I've always let the filter sit on a clean cloth overnight outlet up with a paper towel over the outlet. Excess oil will run down and you can gently pat the end of the filter to get any extra oil off. I've never had a problem doing that.

Similar experience after recently installing a K&N CAI. I made sure the MAF sensors had the arrow going in the right direction and checked the plugs were seated good. The light is gone, for now.

Quick update, everything was seated properly but I put the lids back on and that did the trick. For whatever reason it did not like the intake lids being off.

As I suspected. Appreciate you providing feedback, it'll probably help someone else. 😉

Also glad things are back to normal for you 👍

Can you adjust the title, just to eliminate any concerns with the Steeda filters causing that issue?
Thank you,
