Are you looking for show, stock performance increase, or modding other things and a tune in addition to a CAI?

Reach out to the tuners you like and ask them for recommendations on what works best on their tunes that thy have tested in house on their dyno.

If you're actually going to get a tune, this is the best advice. The intakes on the s650 are very good stock. I went with clear air box lids for aesthetics. The Corsa covers are nice but they have obnoxious badging. They were my second choice. The roush lids are nice but the windows are small. I went with the RAH performance lids. The badging is very subtle. Check them out here.

Back in the day, the real trick setup was to slap 3 Stromberg 97s atop a 239 CI Mercury flathead, add an Isky cam, a set of finned Offy heads, and a set of Lake headers. It looked great, but boy howdy! You still ended up with an over carbureted, lumpy idling, fuel thirsty, and loud as hell, three main bearing V8! To each his own.

Looking into intakes and I need a general idea. I’m leaning toward Corsa but open to other suggestions.
As many have stated none of them really improve system performance. I decided to go with the k&n typhoon kit, something I find aesthetically pleasing. I’m sure it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I like the way it turned out. But yeah I’m sure it made no difference performance wise

The JLTs look like they flow the best in logs I've seen with them installed. I've seen the K&N and corsa intakes and they are about the same as stock intakes with the carbon traps out. I havent had one yet with those super expensive whipple intakes.

And no you do not need a tune for these cars with any intake, they run in map so no maf refinements needed like with previous gens. But tuning will make more power over all for sure if youre running one. I also did one with stock intakes and a CJ manifold with the boschma TB adapter plate and that car made some steam.

Personally the stock intakes will get you all the way to what an NA car will make until you start doing real mods like the CJ intake manifold or porting heads/swapping cams. And please leave the stock TBs in place. The aftermarket ones are a pain to tune with virtually no data available and they dont make a difference at any level.

Edit, this is the JLT I was talking about.

Those do look pleasing on the eye. And the bar across with the flags just sells the whole setup. But yeah I think I’m getting the idea on what to do now. Thank you for the pictures

I went with the Corsa model - looks great in the engine bay, which is what I was going for considering the stock intake is already doing a good job.

Just asking but doesnt the CJ make more power in the upper range vs the factory and arent most cams kind of meh on street cars? Asking an honest question and would like some real info from people who have data and experience with the gen 4. I like how the car runs na but would like a bit more but not into sc catagory power. Apreciate the knowledge. Also the tune i got from p1

I havent had one on the dyno yet, but historically they do make a bit less tq and you really need to run them higher in the RPM range to make up for it. There is tuning magic you can do to help them out tho especially with E85. Once you start thinking outside the box, these cars start to break molds. Thats all imma say about that lol.

And for the cam situation, its variable. Ford puts a lot of overlap in your optimum power VCT settings and these cars NA dont like that much to make good NA power. Its a fine line but again some tuning tricks for VCT OP settings can squeak out some low end gains and really amplify those 8k screaming gains with a CJ. But again, I havent had a 650 on the rollers yet with one. Just street tuning and let me tell you butt dyno be showing some gains...lol.

If done right, you can get that top end scream and not lose anything down low and in fact also make it feel like it picked up with some pedal demand changes as well. I dont get down with those throttle controllers or pedal commanders, but when you do it right in conjunction with careful fuel and spark changes to the entire RPM range, man you can make these cars feel like you are driving a big block.

Some like that some dont. Some want stock pedal feel in certain modes, and some want it to be an on/off switch. Its really up to the driver. But anything is possible, and getting gains on some of these parts is way more than just reving it higher and hoping it likes it.
