Oil change interval ?

My 810hp Shelby recommends oil change at 2,000 miles. Is this assuming it’s driven hard ? I’ve only been past 6,000rpm a couple times. Mostly city and interstate.

First oil change or every oil change? First at 2,000 sounds about right... every oil change at 2,000 sounds like a bit much... but if there is a warranty involved, I would do the every 2,000 as the mfg. recommends.

Don’t feel overly bad, even the non-shelby only gets a one year recommended interval.

Ford's Oil Life Monitor (OLM) operates on two principles: time and use.

When reset as part of an oil change, a clock reference for the OLM starts. If not driven a foot, it will alarm for an oil change at the end of one year.

Use is based on time driven, heat, RPM, drive cycles, etc. Put around, your OLM will probably alarm close to the end of one year or 10,000 mi / 16,000 km, whichever occurs first. Go out for a track weekend, it will be at 0% at the end of that weekend.

With both standards operating in the background, the car will announce 0% when whichever occurs first. For most of us, it will ensure at least annual oil changes, if not a bit more frequently. For people who track or drive hard, it will ensure the oil is changed sooner, on account of the additional wear.

2000 miles sounds a bit too often for a car using modern oils and just normal driving.
You could always get a sample analysed like trucking companies do.

I don't think the OLM is that advanced. It can account for oil, water temps, RPM and the like. Indirectly it adjusts. But for even an EcoBoost, I don't think it directly measures a parameter related to boost.

I'm not aware the Whipple calibrations change OLM parameters.

I change mine yearly regardless of mileage too.

Thinking my previous comments out further...

I can see that Ford would tailor the OLM to that engine. So there's an Eco, Coyote, Predator and yes, maybe a GT350/Coyote-boosted OLM.

While any of these would not monitor a performance-related reading with a new sensor, the OLM would be calibrated to the operating characteristics of those engines.

The blower has its own oil, Eaton says under EXTREME use it is good for 30K miles and normal use up to 100K, although I'd never ever let that small amount of oil go that many miles, and that amount they use in the Eaton TVS is about FOUR OUNCES

I'd be more concerned with the blower oil than the engine oil

That being said, almost ANY quality brand name oil meeting the Ford spec even boosted in normal driving should be good for 5000 miles.

26 Vette's are good for 7500 miles or one year using an oil monitor.

2.0 EcoBoosts are 5000 miles or 6 months, whatever comes first.

I can see if you were doing track days or beating the snot out of it 1/4 mile at a time but 2000 miles is nuts. What are they saying for transmission and rear end fear oil?

How much crap are they blowing past the rings to say 2000 miles?

Just so you know, Whipple, who makes the supercharger Shelby uses for their modern GT350 upgrade package, recommends a 5000 mile oil change.

That's probably because you don't drive much. If you make a lot of miles than probably you would care about mileage.

It actually says in the manual that it recommends changing the oil every 2k miles? This is an s650 with a supercharger just like a whipple right? Does the Shelby have aftermarket parts that are much different than the general aftermarket? Because if it's same aftermarket parts that are available to everyone than there would be no reason to change oil more often ect.
